Really?  A dessert with weak flavor and a horrible mouthfeel isn't a hit anymore?  Color me shocked.

Gelatin is made from boiling down the remains of hundreds or thousands of animals.  It's a like a prion disease lottery.

I've never been a fan of straight jello, but I like the various jello salads that occasionally turn up at potlucks.

Plus, I learned a neat trick from a lady at work - mix in a box of jello with cake batter to make an extra moist and dense cake.

I was thinking about jello only a day or so ago. I wondered if they ever actually sold any of it, and figured that they didn't. It just seems old-fashioned or something. Or just not fatty enough.

Maybe I will go out and buy some jello. I like it. But like everybody else, I never buy any.

But the trend now is toward foods that claim some sort of benefit, such as protein and fiber.

Shredded wheat jello.

They should partner with a rum or vodak brand and sell premade shots.

Let sugar-free jello partially set, then fold in yogurt and let set. Best low-cal dessert ever.

That was in the brains, gelatin is from bones.

If you're worried about prion diseases, you also shouldn't, statistically speaking, drive or ride in a car, since that is several orders of magnitude more dangerous.

What?  Is Jello failing out of favor in Utah?

Also, jello is basically four things. 1. Gelatin (mostly made from pig skin iirc). 2. High Fructose Corn Syrup 3. Artificial coloring agents. 4. Water. That's not exactly a stellar mix in today's world of organic and free range now is it?

its good to take with you when hiking and camping. it can cure mild diarhea if you drink it after only using enough water to dissolve it. inside the belly it sponges up the liquid a little bit. on the other hand if you are always getting the squirts while doing these things you probably are doing something wrong.

Jello PUDDING right?

Because I've made many a sheet cake for catering jobs with this recipe:

1 box cake mix
1 box jello pudding
4 large eggs
1 cup sour cream
1 cup oil/milk (I think 3/4 milk and 1/4 oil but I might be wrong. Maybe half/half or opposite proportions)

Mix in Hobart

Optional: 1 cup chocolate or white chocolate chips (depending on flavor of cake) mixed in after fully incorporated.

Also, reccomend sifting of mixes.

Amazingly fast, easy, reliable and good.

/loaded with whatever chemicals are in the mixes however.
//3 recipes fills a restaurant sheet pan perfectly.
///so much fun to hear people rave about it.
////buttercream.

I bet it is failing because you have to make it. That is too much work for the average person. The prepackaged stuff is flawed too. It has too small a serving for the average person.

That looks like one of those jello-cool whip concoctions. Might have fruit in it. But those things are pretty tasty, like fake ice cream or something.

I'm an ex-drunk who hasn't had a drink in 25 years, so yes, I've played quarters. And never had a jello shot, or played beer pong.

Jell-O isn't too much more than Kool-Aid with gelatin.  (BTW - Jack Benny's first radio sponsor was
Jell-O; he greeted his audience with, "Thank you, thank you, Jell-O again."  The gag was "Jell-O"
instead of "hello"; maybe now it would be "Jell-Oh No"?)

I live in Utah. Ask someone to bring a salad to a potluck and more likely than not a jello, cool whip, canned fruit, and marshmallow concoction will show up rather than lettuce and tomato.

I'm usually low carbing, and this is my concession to sweets. I match the low-carb yogurt (i.e. artificially sweetened) flavor to the jello flavor. Lemon for both is the best, IMO.

"The second ingredient listed for the Jell-O gelatin cups is also high-fructose corn syrup, a cheaper sugar substitute that more people are shunning."

Yeah, I'm going with THIS as a major factor for the decline.

Jello is nasty

Comedic musician Tom Lehrer is considered the inventor of the jello shot. When he was in the army on a naval base (yes, really) they wanted to throw a Christmas party. However there was a ban on having alcoholic beverages on the base. So he and a friend devised a way of getting around the rule since jello isn't a liquid.

The fact that it has high fructose corn syrup is enough to keep me away from it.

Can it not be manufactured using real sugar?

HFCS = poison. Sorry, whoever manufactures HFCS. You're the "Bank of America" of the food industry.

Lemon flavor for me. Plus teas and white grape juice. Then, of course, the magic powder mix that keeps you up all night, as you flush everything out. I was happy for the sweet release of Demerol and Versed. I'm due again next year, I think.

Yeah. My 2-year-old was very excited about buying Jello mix at the store. While she was sleeping, I made a batch of strawberry, and even put pieces of strawberries in it. When I showed it to her, she insisted that I pick out the strawberries for her, and eat the Jello myself. Kids nowadays, I tell ya.
