It's a damn good thing that I never go to Starbucks, because I'd put a stop to that shiat at 9999.

keyword there...He SAID. It would seem that if he did the baristas would have mentioned that in numerous other articles.

The guy is still an attention whoring dick. That tip was just a bit of misdirection. He took a fun little story and made it about him. He's a dick.

2014-08-22 08:40:15 PM
What a douchebag.  I don't care that he ended the pay it forward thing, but anyone that orders a venti mocha frappachino and is proud of it deserves a cockpunch.

2014-08-22 08:50:29 PM
How does a guy whose job is 'local blogger' have enough money saved up in mommy's basement to tip $100?

2014-08-22 08:50:49 PM
If it didn't end eventually, it wouldn't be paying it forward, it'd just be paying it, basically

/that said, what a dick

Exactly. If everyone only pays it forward to one person it can happen a million times and only one person benefits. This guy is still a dick but this Starbucks version of pay it forward is full of stupid.

2014-08-22 09:10:10 PM
How does this work?

Feeling self-righteous is a benefit, isn't it?

Schorsch put an end to all of that, he told the Times, saying he objected to what he perceived as a guilt trip being placed on customers. He said workers were telling customers someone paid for their coffee but then asked if they'd like to pay-it-forward as well.

"Someone did you a good turn.  Would you like to pay what you were already prepared to pay, in order to send a message about people doing nice things for one another?"

"FASCIST SCUM!  HOW DARE YOU SUGGEST THAT ONE GOOD TURN DESERVES ANOTHER!  YOU CAN'T MAKE ME!  I'M GOING TO BLOW THE WHOLE LID OFF THIS THING, DON'T THINK I WON'T GOD DAMN YOU!"

What a dick.

Where's the hero tag? All this does is make the barista's jobs slightly more complicated.

2014-08-22 09:46:28 PM
So paying for a customer's Tenbucks coffee is NOW a "pay it forward?" How about they start an ALS bucket of hot coffee challenge?

2014-08-22 09:56:48 PM
I wonder if this is just a giant scheme to increase business (well, I mean, of course it is, but I wonder if it actually works...).  Do people order way more crap because they're not paying for their own order?

2014-08-22 10:06:20 PM
He's the hero we deserve, not the one we need.

And we'll snark at him on the internet. Because he trollface'd it.

I'd watch those videos. The ice bucket thing is incredibly stupid.

1) haven't been in Starbucks in years.  I can buy Chai mix and make a few cold Chai for the same price of one at Starbucks.  That's my go-to drink

2) if I do go in, I will be that guy.  Unless I choose to pay it forward then walk out without getting a single thing.

Noone did him a "good turn". It was something stupid that had been going on for ages.

He did manage to get all of you folks to comment.

Don't care about his blog, glad he brought even a little attention to pretend feel good congratulatory behavior.  Go do something that really makes a difference.

How does that even work, its not like everyone is ordering the same $2 cup of regular coffee, a customized frappuchino can run like $7...

moothemagiccow: How does this work?

Yeah this. How do they know what the person behind you will order?

Why not order one of those 100USD coffees? :P

Wouldn't want to offend people who are tricked into overpaying for their already overpaid coffee...

2014-08-22 10:15:18 PM
So not to be that guy, but how DOES this work.  Do they ask the person behind you what they are ordering?  Or do you just pay for yours and if the guy behind orders something extraordinarily more expensive the store gets beat?

Since when does being unemployed give you the title 'local blogger'?

I would. Except the smell of coffee disgusts me.  I can stand chocolate flavored coffee beans, but that's it.  The only way for me to enjoy coffee is if I turn it into such a heavy calorie multi-flavor smoothie, that I couldn't taste coffee if it was my first caffeine of the day.

2014-08-22 10:18:02 PM
Yeah, sure he gave them a $100 tip.  Sure.

I know Pete pretty well.  Love the guy, but there's no way in hell he gave her that tip.

moothemagiccow: How does this work?

I'm wondering that as well.

Do I have to pay for Sally Secretary's extra large coconut half caf caramel chocolate sprinkle whip at $10.95 each just because someone forked over $1.95 for my large dark roast?

2014-08-22 10:20:34 PM
Starbucks is an extremely rare treat for some. I don't like the idea of buying fancy coffee, buying someone else's coffee, and tipping. I mean, I actually like tipping, but one only has so much money at any givin time. Also, your 'paying it forward' thing could be put to better use than just buying someone coffee.

How does it goddam work someone please answer the goddam question!!!

no, I didn't.

medic2731: So not to be that guy, but how DOES this work.  Do they ask the person behind you what they are ordering?  Or do you just pay for yours and if the guy behind orders something extraordinarily more expensive the store gets beat?

I started one awhile ago...i had an unexpected small windfall of money (and i mean smallll) but it was a nice bit of luck and wanted to share the feeling. i paid for my coffee and left fifty dollars. i said to use that to pay for as many orders as it lasted. apparently that sparked it. a while after a coworker came to work with a coffee and was talking about how he went through the drive through and his coffee was paid for so he left five bucks. i just smirked and said how spiffy it was.

I recall driving through a Wendy's and ordering meals for my wife, parents-in-law, nephew, niece, and their friend. I did rather well when I checked my bank balance the next day and I can only assume that whoever was behind me was on a diet because there was a $3.70 charge. So I'm a fan overall.

The pay it forward thing is stupid and pointless.

2014-08-22 10:23:49 PM
I would just say, "Ion't nee' no help from nobody. YOU think ur be'ter an me?!?!"

No seriously, I'd say, "let them pay for the next guy, I'll just pay for my own drinks."

No, no no, better yet, while ordering I'd say, "And kindly tell that self-righteous dickbag in front of me to f*ck off if he's thinking of buying me a drink. I don't put out for drinks. Cash and jewelry only."

No, they wouldn't have. The IRS doesn't need to know. ;)
