Had I been Mr. Nye, I would've channeled my inner George C. Scott as Patton and said the following:  "I don't give a good goddamn if the Christian Right says I'm going to hell.  The earth is not 6,000 years old."

Ah, the failings of translation, and the grief it causes.

God may have created the heavens and the Earth 'in the beginning', but that doesn't mean it was 6,000 years ago.

Also, the word for 'created' could also be translated as 'remade'.

Most people who call themselves "Christians" are going to be mighty surprised when the Antichrist shows up and thanks them for their tireless efforts to pervert and twist the word of God to support their own greed and bigotry.

Either that, or they'll be so corrupted they'll gladly follow him.

I don't really agree with the way he gives credibility to village idiots by debating them on shows where both sides of the "argument" are considered equally valid.
It gives them credibility- it doesn't take it away.

Yeah he did everything in seven days, but some days were longer than others. He created the heavens, which were infinitely larger than the Earth, but really put his back into making the Earth. It's a story. Let it go.

2014-08-22 05:50:05 PM
a PEW research poll found that nearly 45 percent of Americans believed humans came to be by a process other than evolution. A similar poll found that one in two Americans don't believe that humans are causing climate change, despite the fact that about 98 percent of all scientists do (a greater consensus than supports the link between cigarette smoking and lung cancer).

This is how dumb you are, climate change deniers. What on earth makes people think they know more than 98% of the experts in the field? It's like thinking that with your business degree and a job as a middle manager at Bumfark, Inc., you know more about heart surgery than 98% of heart surgeons.

I know, I know... it must be a conspiracy of liberals, the UN, and Big Science! STUDY IT OUT!

It's nice that all of you smart Christians believe in "science" and evolution and aren't young-earth creationists. But you still believe in a reborn immortal sky god father-son-spirit that influences the day-to-day actions of humanity, and will send non-believers to a literal hell.

Doesn't that bother the sciencey parts of you in the least?
