If past history is any indication, the official response of the Kirchner government will be to point to the Falklands and yell "LAS MALVINAS SON ARGENTINAS!!!UNO!!1!"

Excellent time to go skiing down there. Chapelco or San Martin Des Andes are sweet spots and the best hotel in town will be about $50 USD a night.

Those "Pickers" show guys would make out like bandits down there.  Their antique and secondhand places are full of stuff people sold during various economic shocks over the last few decades.

The British keep a few thousand men, ships, aircraft and several missile batteries on the island now. I doubt the Argentinian ships would get out of their own harbor this time around.

What a shiat assignment for the Brits. Must be the punishment assignment. If a kid kicks you in the balls and you flinch while standing guard at Buckingham palace, off to the Falklands you go.

I love how the Argentinean government biatches so much about the military force there, claiming it's just so provocative and hostile and there's no reason at all to have ANY weapons there.

And you think the US doesn't have similar situations?  Check out Adak Island.

/Friend of mine did two years on the island as a Marine.  I always asked him how he managed to piss off his DI that badly, since he was sent there for his Boobies.  He swears to this day he did nothing.

Supposed you owe money to Mastercard and Visa which you cannot fully pay back. You refuse to declare bankruptcy to fix the problem. Mastercard negotiates and cuts your debt, but Visa refuses to give you a break. Question: Is it okay to pay money to Mastercard and not Visa since Visa is a big meanie?

The courts answer: the money you are paying belongs to your debtors. Stop giving Visa's share of the money to Mastercard you dumbass.

And before you go being overly sympathetic to poor widdle Argentina, keep in mind that the US was in the same dire situation in the early days, but paid its debts which really helped the US develop. Also keep in mind that Argentina was at the same industrial level as Japan in the early 1900s, but has screwed up it's economy by repeatedly borrowing and not paying back over the last century.

Lol... I got jumped by the fark filter.  All cool.  What I meant could also be phrased as first deployment, since having the word "first" next to the word "post" even when used deep into a post confuses our server overlords into thinking we're somehow talking about being the initial responder to a headline.

Not yet.  They're working on it though.  The unofficial exchange rate is supposedly 1 USD to 13+ Pesos, which is a very wide spread from the official rate of 8.9.  You know things are going badly when the difference between "on the street" and "official" rates are more than the cost of the transaction plus a little profit to the exchanger.  The unofficial rate is nearly 50% higher than the official one - they know they're screwed on foreign exchange.

They ruled they weren't allowed to pay if their bonds, without also paying of the holdouts.

I answered a person who asked why Argentina didn't just pay their bills. They did, but had to stop when a court ruled they couldn't pay them with the money they had set aside for that.

Contacts have terms you have to follow. Argentina didn't want to follow the terms. Courts said they had to.

and then the pair of them compared to Zimbabwe.
