Would he get the nod again?  I wonder, the base was luke warm on him the last time, now that he's lost once I can't see them loving him more.

2014-08-22 08:20:46 AM
I'm at least 47% sure that won't happen.

Who are they going to get? Perry? Rand Paul?

My right wing relations are already trying to polish the turd that is Romney. If we wind up with Romney v. Hillary I'm going to throw myself out a window.

I'm sure that he'd love to see Mitt fail again. It's sort of his thing. He pushes conversations, and then lets other people pick them up again. Even his failed Presidential bid set the stage for people "just asking the questions." Plus, let's face it, Romney spreads cash around, and Ryan has friends who soak up that cash. He's good for K Street, and anyone who takes focus away from Congress at this point is more than welcome.

I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss Romneys chances in another run. The GOP have become experts in re-writing history. They would have no problem in telling the flock how Romney was right about everything and if we had only elected him in 2012 everything would be sunshine and unicorns.

Sure, but everyone outside the base will vote for whomever the Dems put up.

As I've mentioned in other double-down on Mitt threads: I'd love to vote against that asshole again

I love that this isn't going away. Romney at GOP '16 with a "tanned, rested, and ready" message would just be the best thing ever. Rand might take a swing at him at some point, yelling "IT'S MY TIME!"

Romney v. Hillary would be a tough choice.

Cletus C.: Romney v. Hillary would be a tough choice.

Only if you don't care about the well being of America.

There are better picks than Hilary but she's not anywhere near the scumbag Romney would be.

I'd love to see his taxes.  His Swiss bank accounts.  Hillary would take the gloves off.

So Ryan thinks Romney should do a Dewey*?

Please proceed, Guv'ner.

/*Dewey ran against an incumbent FDR and lost and was the GOP's presidential candidate against newcomer Truman next time out.

NIXON YOU DOLT!

Never underestimate the unexpected in politics.

Aside from Clinton, what other Democrat has as large a public profile as Romney?

Let's face it, a lot of undecided voters are poorly informed and haven't taken the time to digest just how historically obstructionist and damaging the GOP has been since 2009. If they feel that a drastic change is necessary, they very well could decide to give Romney a chance.

The GOP seems to be doing their best to make things go from bad to worse. Since it's a strategy that might actually work, it's best not to do any victory laps 26 months before the election.

"Romney offered his own good-humored praise by saying that Ryan "wouldn't be a bad president" himself."

And then they joined hands and skipped off to the waiting limo, laughing about how they'd show those poors who was in charge...

Republican Party 2: electric derp-a-loo!!!

Still have Romney. Replace Ron Paul with rand. Switch perry with Cruz and swap palin for Bachman. Santorum will still be the extreme religious candidate. We just need an established southerner whose crazier then gengritch. (Colony on Pluto?) and a another crazy black dude. Any ideas?

2014-08-22 10:55:35 AM
I honestly wouldn't doubt it.  His campaign would basically be "I could have done better than Obama."  With the benefit of hindsight, he can say all of the wonderful things he would have done differently and how well they would have turned out.  Also, anything Obama did that did work out, he can say he would have done as well.  He is a good liar.

If it comes down to it, they'll just recreate a Romney in their heads that never existed and roll with that.  The GOP's shared X-Men power is pretty much completely suspending reality and then trying to mold their lives around the fiction.

Established crazy "Southerner" might be Kansan governor Sam Brownback - his Randian dream for the state will surely have them rivaling NY any day now...

"Crazy black dude" is obviously Dr Ben Carson, MD, who is totally a doctor - a neurosurgeon, even! - so he knows all about cosmology and economics and diplomacy and shutting up the libs. He'd make a great president, and his birf sertifikit has eagles on it.

Does the US use the DDC then? I would have thought the US would have a system with something like 12 divisions, which each have 14 classes made up of 24 sections each, apart from the 200 division which is twice the size (obviously), apart from the 290 division which are not used (as it would upset some people to see them), and the 500 division is hidden near the back in a locked room only accessible by those with a note from their priest/pastor that they are morally strong enough not to be corrupted by viewing such heresies.

Huckabee, Carson.

Palin will make noises but never run. Too much work, not enough grift.

They're going to go full Santorum or Perry.

After 8 years of tyranny under a 70s-era Republican administration they need someone that understands that without tax cuts for the Job Creators the republic cannot stand.

Also, life begins as soon as So You Think You Can Dance is over and my underpants fit funny.

She's a Grifter, A Carpetbagger, A Demagogue. She's a lazy bimbo who couldn't be bothered to take a crash course in political thought and geography and modern events.

Seriously, if she had a real brain, she'd be a very dangerous woman.

Unfortunately Hillary is also very hawkish, and I'd say we'd have at least a 50/50 chance of having another ground war under her watch.

its funny how, amongst all the contenders, gingritch got the "the crazy one" title and laughed out of the race for proposing a major national endeavour towards space exploration and deeper human understanding of our universe.

And by funny I mean utterly depressing. I need a drink.
