Closetland is one of my favorite movies of all time

OF ALL TIME!

It gets in your head and lives there for a while. Every now and then it jumps out at you and goes 'but did you consider this?'

That movie alone is enough to cement Rickman as phenomenal.

THAT was... actually, really rather good. I was seriously not expecting that ending at all.

Troglodyte?

So I googled his name.  Ooooh, look - he's been in Harry Potter movies.  Yeah, I must be a troglodyte because I never read a Harry Potter book nor saw any of the movies.

So he's a farking actor.  Who the hell cares?  Still not sure what "childhood memory" of mine he supposedly destroyed - probably some TV show that didn't come out until I was 50.

How is he being a moron, moron?!  If you're making the assumption that everyone should already, as if by magic, know who this guy is then, by extension, you should also know everything everyone else knows.  So I guess you're a fan of Percy Grainger then and if you're not you're a moron. I mean I'm very familiar with Grainger...you're not?!

It's always kind of cool how big actors do favors for friends and friends-of-friends and just exercise their acting.  For Rickman, I bet this project was like going out for a jog.

I like Rickman's style, so to see him just...work, is kind of cool.  Stuff like this is why I pay to watch him in a feature length flick.  He doesn't have to say a word.

Shame about the thread but it was a nice short.

Good question---hipsters tend to define themselves as being independent and not controlled or swayed by external influences (other than those influences they self-define as being "cool"). Edginess suggests being rebellious in some way (or maybe just acting like you're "ahead of the crowd"). In either case, the "edgy hipster" likes to think of himself as being in the "in crowd" yet that same crowd must be wildly popular otherwise it becomes "mundane".

I don't know what a term for the antithesis would be.

Well perhaps we can come to a conclusion based on your definitions.

Independent - Dependent
Rebellious - Obedient
Forefront - Antiquated

Would someone whom is antiquated, dependent, and obedient be more likely to speak out against a videos like this?

I don't know, what's your take on that?  And I'm not sure who was "speaking out against" the video, either.

In any case, it sure did not immediately hit me (and at least a few other posters here) as a video which "destroyed childhood memories"....in fact, I had no idea it was about a tooth fairy at all. To me, it just seemed like some sort of creepy fantasy short. The fact that it didn't strike me as being about the tooth fairy at all pretty much suggests you had to know beforehand that it was a dark take on that childhood belief.

I guess I'm not hip enough to have figured it out on my own, though.

Well, perhaps when you told people to not bother watching this you were just being hyperbolic as opposed to condescending?

My take is that yes, someone whom posted not to watch this would probably be in the spectrum of antiquated, dependent, and obedient.  So, I was going to ask you what word you would use to define yourself in an attempt to come up with the antithesis.

But being that you were apparently responding to or participating in the exaggerated views of others as some form of joking around then I guess I can safely assume that you do in fact respect creativity and are yourself at least a little bit of an edgy hipster.

Actually, when I saw it I pretty much thought "So, another hipster film?"  It's shot nicely and, to me, had a Brothers Grimm feel to it. But did I associate with the tooth fairy? Not at all. Of course, when I later learned it was a dark take on the TF I could see it. But it wasn't obvious to me or to at least a few other posters here. What was clear is that those of us who didn't get it or wet our pants over how "creative" it is suddenly became seemingly vilified.

As far as creativity goes, I've been a videographer for more than two decades and think I kind of know what creativity is. Maybe sometimes. Still trying to figure that one out. Over the years I've seen that it doesn't take much to make people cream their pants when it comes to "edgy" films. Maybe I'm jaded and it takes a little more to get me all hot-n-bothered.

But, then again, I still rank "My Dinner with Andre" as one of the best films ever so maybe that's why those in the edgy-hipster crowd think I'm antiquated.
