Busted. And not just because Kari is leaving. In many ways, the entire build team eclipsed Jamie and Adam.

What about the fact they ran out of myths years ago?

Didn't stop them so far

They will be mythed

2014-08-21 11:59:53 PM
I bet Jamie and Adam are the saddest of all. Now they'll have to fill a whole show, instead of showing up for an hour of taping to fill 10 minutes. I always disliked the "B" team, especially when they basically became the "A" team.

2014-08-22 12:00:56 AM
I will still watch.

b2theory: I will still watch.

I suppose I will, too...when I can find it on.

At this point, they should just send it over to the Science Channel, because they run the show more than Discovery does.  When Discovery does run it, it's on once, maybe twice in a week and then you don't hear about it again for two months.

2014-08-22 12:12:02 AM
bummer.

2014-08-22 12:24:37 AM
I didn't realize it was still on the air.  I catch an episode from time to time, but I just figured they were all re-runs.

I don't imagine they'd be leaving if they didn't have something else lined up though.

2014-08-22 12:40:01 AM
I'm actually pretty much OK with this. I always enjoyed the more technical and geek-oriented parts of the show with adam and jamie.

At least two of the other three have enough personality to at least land a supporting, if not central, role on other projects.

2014-08-22 12:41:59 AM
I'll give it a shot, but it's probably going to kill the show. It wasn't their "star power" or even Kari's very cute tochis, but the dynamic between the whole cast. Jaime and Adam had the experience, and Tory, Grant and Kari made their contributions, and it was the interplay between all the elements that gelled it into a great show.

Kitchens are like that, sometimes. The right crew, at the right time, that's magic, a couple of folks leave, and it breaks up the team, and it's not that these particular folks were the heart of the team, but the interplay, the dynamic between all the elements made it magic. Casts are the same way. A show can get the heart sucked out of it with the loss of a couple of folks, and it can throw off the whole damn thing, not necessarily because those characters were integral, but you've broken up the dynamic that made it sing.

Some shows can weather that. Some shows, it's not the cast so much as the producer's or director's vision. In this case, I think that the magic in the show was in the team. Some "reality" shows do just fine, because it's all about the science or the watching the trainwreck unfold, and no on is particularly invested, because they're disposable people in that sense. Mythbusters, that was a whole different animal, and while Jaime and Adam might be able to take on a new team and a new direction, I think that the fans are very much invested in the team, and that was why they watched the show. To see these people do their thing.

I'll watch it, but with some reservations. I'll give them a shot, but I suspect that without the team, or with a different team, it's just going to feel weird.

Grant can at least look to his work ILM, as an engineer. Kari has her art, and a husband, and her child, and I think a lot of folks forget, that she's 40 this year. Tory...he'll land somewhere. He was a model maker for ILM after all. And that's sort of the thing: these are all folks whose work was primarily behind the scenes, or in constructing stuff for screen. They've all worked outside the show for some time. It's not like they were just picked up off the streets. Grant and Tory both worked for ILM, and have some chops in behind the scenes work. Kari...less so, but she's a gorgeous woman in California, with an avid following, and her own art career.

Holy fark, this has needed to happen for years.  Sure Adam & Jamie have been phoning it in for a while, but they're still leaps and bounds beyond the build team's irritating "OMGLOLWTF DID YOU SEE THAT IT WAS ALL LIKE *WOOOOSH* AND *BOOOOM*!!  LET'S DO IT AGAIN WITH MORE DYNAMITE!" thing.

2014-08-22 01:24:49 AM
Irrespective of your feelings of the build team, this wax poorly handled by Discovery and will piss off far more people than those it will please.  After 10 years you don't give them a chance to say goodbye or an explanation as to why?  Pretty crappy IMHO.

Personally, I enjoyed them.  Good counter in style to Jamie and Adam.

One Bad Apple: doglover: What about the fact they ran out of myths years ago?

Yeah. Then again, it's never been about that.

Plus, while they're fun and all, I never cared for the build team's projects. Jamie is the licensed pyrotechnician. His work is the reason we all tune in. Everything that's not a dozen felony charges to do without that license is just filler until the cement truck goes boom.

here's Adam and Jamie's goodbye.

I know Jamie can sound flat an unenthusiastic at the best of times, but this is insincere even by his standards.

i wonder how much money the B team were after?

Pretty much this.  Its all gimmicks.  Which is rather sad.  They need to reboot and do something else.

I really hope Grant gets a job presenting a technology/robotics show, preferably a factual one (not Robot Wars).

Meh. Kari's a serious cutie, but I preferred the show without Team B (that's you, Kenny).

This was my assumption as well, since they were the ones on camera constantly.

Who ever gave a fark about Tory anyway? If you're still around watching this you can only miss Grant and Kari.

Uh, it's pretty obvious they were all fired. "leaving the show" is totally a euphemism at this point.

If I was a betting man (and it appears I am) I would wager that this is a combined result of both wanting to try a new format to bolster ratings as well as being unable to afford the budget of the larger production any more.

Remember, you're not just losing the co-hosts, you're losing their segments, the additional staff and assistants and the second and third camera/shooting crews. I'm sure a lot of people got pink slips from Myth Busters (or will soon) but I doubt they'll get public Twitter apologies...

2014-08-22 05:16:38 AM
I wasn't even sure if it was still on since I cut the cord.  I've been pretty disappointed with the last few clips I've seen.  Yeah, even Mythbusters went to shiat, but they were still the best show on Discovery.

2014-08-22 05:19:10 AM
Maybe they can get Scottie back. I've missed her ever since season one.

Well, golly gee, I guess Adam and Jaime will have to actually put some effort in now...aw, who am I kidding.  It'll go back to them being bored around the shop and pissing each other off.

Mythbusters will now turn into

AMERICAN MYTH DEADLIEST SWAP LOGGING ICE ROAD PAWN BUSTING

You cannot run the same damned show forever, and their segments were pretty much getting old and also far too close to a lot of other 'blow shiat up and shout woo' shows.

A refresh is smart.

I liked all the people on the show, I just hated when they started overly scripting it and over producing it. Just let them do their thing, it was entertaining enough

Ha ha....yeah I kinda liked them more too.

So, what's the score then? Are they going to have shorter shows or something?

Favourite Jamie line: "It's aliiive!" in the shower lightning one, when they're zapping buster with a huge lightning rod.

It's such a good premise for a show, I've always wondered if they were going to try and do a spin off somehow. Some new premise to give them an excuse to build stuff and blow it up.

I can't look at her without remembering that she helped her husband smear shiat on canvas to sell as art.
They were allowed to keep their kid.

Don't hate, just saying, it pops up like a billboard.

I think it's a wise choice.  They've firmly established themselves in our culture, but they don't want to be attached forever to Jamie and Adam (which might be an especially good choice since it looks like everything else Jamie and/or Adam attempt to do ends up being garbage).

I kind of equate it to Olivia Munn deciding to leave AOTS!  While I quite enjoyed her there, the show was getting tired and if I were her, I wouldn't want to have my career attached to that forever.  She can and has done better for herself since leaving.  What's Kevin Pereria done?  Not so much.

2014-08-22 06:47:15 AM
I'm OK with this.

Maybe it had gotten somewhat better, but Team B was mostly always given the make-work, dumb "myths." Nothing against the team members themselves. Perhaps it was the editing, but it was definitely a sideshow.

I had the most fun watching Jamie and Adam's builds.

I thought the best thing that happened was getting rid of the phony segments where they "searched" for a myth in the first season. It was redundant. Second was getting rid of the person who started refusing to work on myths. Those were awkward episodes.

To me, Jaime is like a Grandfather that used to build amazing stuff when he was younger and is now retired and hardly ever does anything in his extensive shop.  And when he does, it's only because his 7 year old grandson asks him to, but Jaime knows that the kid really doesn't care about learning any of the skills, doesn't really care about what is made or how, and will probably get board with whatever it is halfway through the design phase.  So, Jaime just cobbles something together all half-assed and says "Here ya go, kid" and the kid is rightly disappointed with it.

Adam is the enthusiastic one and the only one that brings any real energy to the show.  He needs to break away and do something really cool.

Heh Kari recently had a public vote on which dress she would wear to an event. A really pretty bluish dress seemed to be the winner of the votes, but she wore a rather ugly dress instead.

Stopped watching the MB a few years back. Sorta lost interest but I catch the highlight segments here and there. Hopefully the trio has good luck with their next projects. They seemed to be good sports.

Grant is doing Star Trek continues as Mr. Sulu.  They are pretty good fan films.
