I've played Beer Tycoon, which looked to be an intresting game... if it was not for all the bugs

Now? Game Dev Tycoon came out December 2012.

Hey, subby, have you heard of that new game where you get to try to cross the street as a frog?

Tales from The Trenches disavowed me of any illusions I had about the sweet life of game development.

Wouldn't mind being a game tester if I was paid in anything other than pizza and soda.

Just make sure that the sound effect you used in the last level fits in the next one, too.

Got this for free on my Kindle as the app of the day in their store.

It's actually not bad for a time waster, but there's a lot of just RNG elements to it that keep it from being better.

It's not all roses and sunshine, but the people (at least where I work) are fantastic.

Crossy Crossy Jump Jump?  The graphics was OK but the gameplay was off the hook.

the devs will always hold a special place in my heart for their piracy shenanigans:

The cracked version is nearly identical to the real thing except for one detail... Initially we thought about telling them their copy is an illegal copy, but instead we didn't want to pass up the unique opportunity of holding a mirror in front of them and showing them what piracy can do to game developers. So, as players spend a few hours playing and growing their own game dev company, they will start to see the following message, styled like any other in-game message:

I'm also surprised that this review is so late in the game (pun slightly intended). I usually wait to buy a game after it comes out, and even I have owned GDT for around 7-8 months now. For game related news, that's practically a lifetime.

Where can I find the Link # for this thread? I know I have seen it previously on Fark, but I can't seem to find it right now.

Is... is this new to fark? Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Well, maybe not fallen, but at least passed out in a puddle of their own sick only to wake up a couple years later and groggily stumble to a computer to see what's happening in the world.

The best part of Game Dev Tycoon is that one of the random events that can occur is that a competitor can copy your game, putting out their own version without having to do any real R&D.

Oh wait...

Played this and really liked it. Definitely some randomness involved but fun nonetheless.

I see you deleting the post that talks about Fark being behind the times because this is from 2 years ago (but not the post earlier that makes the same point, which seems odd that you would leave one but not the other), so if you could please answer my question I would greatly appreciate it. I am asking so I can fill out your Farkback form.

Just delete all of this.

Ha! I was expecting to see that number somewhere next to the link on the page or something.

D'oh. Thank you.

Yeah, I quit reading the comic when they got moved into the basement, but I'm still reading the anecdotes.

So it's an update of Software Star on the ZX Spectrum then?

Kevin Toms is a genius. I put more hours into Football Manager than any other game written in BASIC. Than every other game.

Do you recommend it? I must have either missed it or not yet installed the Amazon app store when it was free, as I would certainly have grabbed it then. As it is, I have a bit of credit there burining a hole in my pocket and it certainly looks like it may be worth spending a bit of it. Either that or play Game Dev Story through again.
