*snert*....but remember subby, it's the Dallas Cowboys who are the real criminals of the NFL.  Never forget that.....

I'm sure they'll still get less punishment from the NFL than the guy who took fertility drugs so he could have a child.

Dude's name is Blount; what did you expect?

That said, god damnit. My team keeps doing stupid shiat like this. I have cautious hope for this season. Don't ruin this for me!

I find it hard to believe that a role model of LeGarrette Blount's stature would be unable to adhere to the rules of a civilized society.

If there is one substance that I can see that would give you an unfair advantage in the NFL it's definitely pot.

Precious Roy's Horse Dividers: DOING THINGS THE RIGHT WAY

They're the Fighting Irish of professional football. Every time some new scandal comes the Steelers' way, it's always such a shock, because the Steelers aren't that kind of an operation, and they never are, aside from the Hines Ward shooting, Big Ben not knowing what "no" means, et al.

/Did you know Jerome Bettis is from Detroit?

/And, while we're on the topic..."Steelers's?!"

I have never said one ill comment about a player on another team smoking weed so I guess I won't do it for my own team either. Of course I'm in Seattle where smoking a bowl on the courthouse steps will cost you $28, though you'd likely get several warnings first.

A little bit yes.  However, if you are going to give a team some pre-game jaw about a well needed ass-whooping, you can probably expect someone to say something about it after the game.  Especially when you get your ass handed to you on a platter.

I wouldn't consider "How about that ass-whooping?' to be that inappropriate.    Especially when taken into context with Blount's pre-game comments.

I know blount was driving. I know they had weed. I do not know that blount was driving and smoking weed at the same time. He probably was but there's no way to know at this point unless he admitted it.

Anywho - I haven't done it in years but I think I've driven after taking a puff at least 100 times. Never even thought about it and never came close to any mishaps. (can't say the same for drinking and driving back in the day - as a dumb college student I dodged death at least a dozen times. Different era).

Now that I'm all grown up I think puffing and driving is idiotic. But if I'm honest with myself and having years of experience, drinking and driving is an order of magnitude more dangerous. Something about alcohol brings out the 'gonna do something stupid no matter what' than pot does. That's my opinion anyway.

Farking Blount man.

/dumb, criminal for now, but actual impact on the season for the Steelers will be minimal...maybe a suspension for Blount but Bell is a first timer

I would consider it asking to get an ass-whooping.

/of course, Blount said that because Boise State spent the first game between the two blatantly headhunting (did it twice on late hits on different players) and injured their QB

Yup. Pot just makes you super paranoid. Again, there have been studies on closed-road courses - high drivers actually wound up being safer than not just drunk drivers, but the sober ones.

2014-08-21 12:09:43 PM
Suspended for more or less than Ray Rice?

2014-08-21 12:16:23 PM
The story I saw said Bell was given a blood test and didn't travel with the team to their upcoming road game while Blount did go with the team. Based on that I would have assumed Bell was the driver, but maybe that was an early story with the facts not squared up?

If you are going to be jawin' directly to a player, you need to be prepared to have someone fly off the handle on you.  What Hout did was dumb and he paid for it.  At least keep you lid on. That still does not excuse Blount in any way.

Blount said that because Boise State spent the first game between the two blatantly headhunting (did it twice on late hits on different players) and injured their QB

Partially, but it was also because Boise went into Autzen and beat them.  Don't forget that the starting QBs (Masoli and Harper were to split time) were awful and Boise was ahead 24-6 when Masoli was knocked out.  Harper continued to struggle and it was not until they put Thomas in that they stated to cut into Boise's lead.

And yes the two cheap shots by Boise were bad.

Having done both as a teenager in the late '70s I would say that at least when high I was careful, because I knew I was impaired.  When drunk I was a strong believer in my superior driving skills.

Given the headline, shouldn't the response of Steelers Myopics be something like this?

"Look, there's no telling What A Fool Believes. If they think that going to China Grove will Keep You Running, I don't care as long as they Listen to the Music from the coaches. You know these guys think Jesus is Just Alright, so let them relax and keep that Long Train Runnin'."

Too bad they don't play for the Seahawks. They wouldn't even have made the local police blotter. I hope missing Thursday's game is the ONLY punishment for this. That is still excessive.

As a Steeler fan...

20 grams is about 3/4 of an oz.  Given that the car smelled enough of weed driving by that a motorcycle cop felt the need to track them down, I'm gonna make an assumption (yeah, I know, Ass out of U and Me) that it was a full ounce when they started.  That's a bit more than a dime bag for personal use.  So I think they both deserve punishment.

My level of outrage will be determined by the blood tests:

If the driver was high, then he should should spend at least 8 games suspended.  The other should get 2-4.  I think weed should be legal, but it isn't in PA.  Even so, driving while high is just stupid and the punishment should fit (on top of whatever legal consequences they get).  If the blood comes back clean, then 2-4 games each just for being stupid.

What I predict will happen:

Blount will be cut.  This isn't new for him and it's a pattern of stupidity.  He isn't much of a cap hit and we will find some other RB to fill the spot.
Bell will receive a minor suspension from the team (if the NFL doesn't suspend him first), like 2 games.  Basically citing the Ray Rice punishment as "This isn't nearly as bad as beating your girl unconscious. So we are taking it seriously."  The real reason he wont get more (at least from the team) is cap and salary issues, not because of any social justice or "doing things the right way".

The precedent was set a few years back when both James Harrison and Cedric Wilson got into domestic disputes.  The star with a huge cap hit was given a minor slap on the wrist.  The other was cut in a vain attempt to show that the team "cares" about its image.

Meh.... he was like 22 at the time. Young people do ill-advised things some times.

If punching some bro 5 years ago and smoking weed are the worse things being hold over this guy, then I'd say he's well ahead of the curve.

Heh. If fark suspended everyone who had smoked weed and punched a guy at some point there would be no fark.

/have not punched anyone in almost twenty years

i heard someone, mike florio, i forget, on dan patrick's shwo the other day and he made a great observation but moreso about Josh Gordon's use of MJ, along the lines of

"The NFL at some point will have to recognize that marijuana is legal, or its possession and use is no longer criminalized, in 4 of the 23 (?) states in which the NFL has a team, and with data suggesting it may have a use in treating concussions, the NFL at some point may have to revisit its stance on marijuana.  I mean, it doesn't enhance on the field performance anyways, but may help players off the field and like i said, is already legal in some states."

Washington
Colorado
Arizona (on paper but in reality not really)
California
....doesn't Michigan no loner criminalize possession?
