I think it would be a thing of absolute beauty -- heart-stopping beauty, the sort of beauty that few people ever really have the opportunity to encounter in their lives -- if Republicans did win the Senate this November, but Mitch McConnell lost his election to Alison Grimes.

Lord, I ask for very little. Please, I beg of you. Make this happen.

It requires a 2/3rds majority to convict in the Senate. They won't have 67/100 votes to impeach.

They could impeach, they couldn't convict.

Part of me really wants them to do it. I really want them to impeach the President for the crime of being a Democrat. That would be two Democratic Presidents in a row that were impeached for basically nothing. How many more times would it need to happen before people realize that Republicans have no interest in responsible government?

To make matter worse corporate spending on R&D isn't growing much.

That said, if you are willing (and able) to move outside of the states you might have better luck.

Wouldnt change much though.  The house will still be held by the repubs so any legislation will need its blessing.  The difference from today is a 50-50 tie would slow the passing of house embarising legislation to near zero.  But even if the repubs get the senate they will not have a veto proof majority..... we are going to get a gummed up government no matter what the election results in.

But Republicans are tantalizingly close to winning majorities in both houses of Congress for the first time in nearly a decade

This just boggles my mind. I can't understand anyone that would actively vote for a Republican. Being pissed about everything and sitting out, fine. You're an idiot and just as much of the problem, but fine. Who looks at these people and goes, "Yea, they seem like a good choice to run this nation"?

A "good example," McConnell said, is adding restrictions to regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency. Adding riders to spending bills would change the "behavior of the bureaucracy, which I think has been the single biggest reason this recovery has been so tepid," he said.

God I wish there was a followup to this question. As in, "What the fark does that mean?"

Eh, I don't have *Too* much, compared to some people. And with a PhD in physics, I'm apparently pretty hireable for a lot of non-research things (somethng about the way we wind up being trained to think?). Most of it's just from undergrad.

STILL super-pissed, though. The last sequester and shutdown ROYALLY FARKED the NSF's funding, and they're *still* recovering from it.

Yeah it's kind of hard *not* to get a full ride for physics. In part because the schools go "OH HEY A FREE RESEARCHER uh, yes, totally, we'll 'pay' your tuition." I do still have some student debt from undergrad, and a *little* I grabbed in grad school (Applied for financial aid just in case of sudden life expenses, which... has happened, and it's cheaper than credit card debt.)

I'm certain I'll be alright in the long run, it's just intensely frustrating.

They're doing what they were elected by the people to do. Stop Democrats and their policies. I'm sorry democracy vexes you so much. Perhaps you should move to a place where the government is in firm control and functions smoothly, delivering the social policies *you* prefer, while preventing discussion of disruptive things that interfere with the efficient implementation of obviously superior government solutions.

You should move to China. Now.

While it's specific to one psychopathic tendency of God, I think Desmond Tutu said it best: "I would not worship a God who is homophobic and that is how deeply I feel about this...I would refuse to go to a homophobic heaven. No, I would say sorry, I mean I would much rather go to the other place."

Impeaching is merely trying them. Clinton was impeached. He was not convicted.

So, they'll impeach, just not get a conviction.
