I blame several six packs.

It's noon on a workday.  Gimme 5 hours.

I'm almost there thanks to my pothead workout program called "Dabs for Abs", you have to do a certain number of either situps, pushups or pullups before you can hit the nail.

I beg to differ. I have a six-pack.  In fact, I have several six-packs at home.

Biceps, triceps, quads, shoulders, glutes, etc. are made in the gym.

Abs are made in the kitchen. You have to lose the belly fat that covers those abs.

That seriously has to be the stupidest article on this subject I've ever seen.

In summary:

Food or alcohol has nothing to do with it.  JUST HIT IT HARDER, GIRLY MAN!

I'm going with just one:  "I don't really exercise all that much".

I would have a six pack if I ate better, but on the bright side I do go to the gym

To get more ab involvement during chin-ups, prevent any forward motion of the lower body as you pull up, as using the legs for momentum takes away from the abs.

I had a six pack once. I was on the JFL team in 8th grade and the coaches made us run and do sit ups if we messed up. I messed up a lot. Never got a six pack from high school football though.

1. You're not doing enough big exercises

I'm not doing any exercises

2. Your training isn't tough enough

You have no idea how hard it is to get out of this chair, so fark you.

3. You're not doing cardio first

You want me to work out before working out?  What the hell is that?

4. You're doing ab lean-outs wrong

Doing what?

5. You're not hitting your lower abs correctly

I didn't know striking myself with a ball-peen hammer in the naval was a good idea.

I recently started drinking summer shandy and lost 5 lbs in 2 weeks.  So why not exercise and beer together?  HOORAY BEER!

Because I beer battered some wings and drank 5 beers.

Yup.  I exercise plenty, but keep a nice little layer over my abs.  Why?  Because I don't really want a 6-pack badly enough to give up beer and pizza.  It's not like I'm out of shape (I just won my age group in a triathlon this weekend), but I just don't care enough to go the last extra mile to look like a statue.  And as you point out, more ab exercises will give you stronger abs, but not a six pack by any means.  A strong core is a really good thing to have, but having visible ab muscles doesn't really accomplish anything beyond looking good.

2014-08-20 01:49:22 PM
Having visible abdominal muscles is generally a sign of an unsustainably low and slightly unhealthy body fat percentage.

3. You're not doing cardio first

Because I'm sure everyone else at the gym appreciates that I'm not sweating all over the benches, bars, and weights.

2014-08-20 01:51:00 PM
Because I eat too much and move to little.

It's as simple as that for me.

I am thinking about trying to eat better 6 out of the 7 days of the week, and then have a free day once a week where I can eat whatever I want, but I already eat pretty well, I just need to work on portion size a bit more and move my ass more.

Just take the stairs up to your gym instead of the escalator.

Because the 90 Minute IPA is only sold as a 4-pack.

I don't need a six pack. I don't get punched in the stomach very often and my intestines aren't the Incredible Hulk trying to punch out of my gut.

I'd rather save my limited gym time working on muscles that are actually worth making bigger.

Also, there's technically no such thing as "lower abs".  You have abs.  That's it.

Take a 15 minute cool down break and wipe everything off after you use it.  It's not a big deal.

^ This.

This article is about is ab exercises. It's basic info. "Do harder work outs, do them correctly, and do cardio as well". If you lose the belly fat you gotta work the abs eventually to make them more prominent. I figure the author is thinking everyone knows you gotta lose body fat to really show up all muscles, not just the abs (but admittedly especially the abs).

I'm more intrigued about the mention of spot targeting fat. I've heard constantly that this is impossible, can't be done, but he says it can. I suspect he's mistaken, but am always open to trying new things.

I used to belong to a gym with a real 80's type vibe, had a two story staircase to the lobby. Then you had to walk down the same number of steps inside to get to the lockers and weight room. Basically, "if you can't do this, go away". Very much pre-ADA.

That seemed like a very bold claim to me.  Spot-targeting fat is impossible without liposuction, as far as I know.  But, it might be worth trying that little routine a couple times a week for a few weeks to see if it has any merit.
