Normal size rat for NYC, maybe even below average.

Rodents of unusual size? I don't think they exist.

However, you can still taste the it coming.

Lousy camera work lost any footage of the rat up close and personal.  Impossible to know exactly how large the rat was without a shot of its fangs sunk into a person's shoe or ankle.

Real New Yorkers just give a wind up and boot the rat across the tracks to the opposite platform.

Why would you want to see a rat do that?

Sure you do, the giant rats are the ones in suits

I have a fwd.fwd.fwd fax.fax.fax joke from the 80's that would be applicable but the funny part just expired earlier this week.  Otherwise I would find it, scan it in, and share it.

I saw this yesterday and I think "giant" is an exaggeration. I've seen rats larger than that here (Texas) on my back porch. THOSE farkers were big. This one is ... not so big, just aggressive.

THIS is a rat.

And there's no way the subway rat saw him from that far away and charged him.

The rat just happened to decide to run in his direction, and when it saw the guy in his path he encouraged him to move away.

Bloomberg was right about the consequences of eliminating stop and frisk. Now the NYPD cannot even protect us from rats.

It was large, not giant. Full grown male rats can be much bigger than that, but this one was definitely eating well. It never attacked him. It was running away from the noise and ran into him and jumped. Rats can see clearly for maybe 5 feet. It had no idea he was there until it almost ran into him causing it to be startled.

Rats do not attack unless threatened and they will usually try to escape before even considering attacking. There are millions of rats in the NY subways, and there are no people being bitten.

I have raised rats for many years. They need better pr. By far the best pet you can get a child is a rat. Friendliest, cheapest, safest, and easiest with the intelligence level of a dog. And its only a 2.5 year commitment instead of 15 years.

These stories give me the creeps
I hope I didn't miss the last train
Some smartass posted lifesize pictures of rats
all over the walls of the subway station
Funny joke
It's pretty quiet down here
It's a little TOO quiet down here

Who's that across the tracks
Smoldering eyes glaring up at me
Inching closer and closer, almost laughing out loud
The train finally comes, but it doesn't even stop
"Not here, not tonight
I'm off in an hour, I don't want to get involved
With some guy in a suit fighting rats off his face
Just leave 'em to the night, they'll be gone the next day"

When they start fleeing the subway en masse, then you can start worrying, NYC.

Bought a female rat for my daughter. No one warned us that some of the females are prone to tumors. It developed one almost as big as its body. Vet said surgery would have cost $80 (on a $10 rat) and if the rat survived most likely the tumor would return and starve the rat of blood and nutrients. More humane just to have the poor rat put to sleep.

ITG moment.  If you're scared of a rat (and you're standing and conscious), you're a pussy (unless it's rabid).  I've had one jump at me (or to the nearest garbage bag), and kicked it a good 10 ft.  I was lucky not to get rat urine on me,  This is one of many reasons why I think it's idiotic for hipsters to wear flip flops in NYC in the summer.

Yeah, well my wife and kids overrode my veto and spent $185 to remove mammary tumors from a $4.99 rat.

My wife asks, "The vet wants to know if we want pathology on the specimen.  That's $80."

"Why would we want pathology?"

"Don't you want to know if the tumor's malignant?"

"So we can do... what?  Rat chemo?  No, we are not getting pathology!"

Anyway, Luna lived another year after that, and succumbed to pneumonia.

She was worth the $189.99

RIP Luna.  You were a good rattie.
