Something like this. Poachers are one of the few criminals I would mind being executed on the spot.

I'm glad he was caught before he managed to off-load the eggs somewhere, and that they were successfully reburied. Repeat offenders like him should get maximum sentences and GPS devices that would alert authorities when he was in the vicinity of a location he was prohibited from being, i.e. a beach.

Living in the Midwest in an area that is over-run by white tailed deer I'm rather ambivalent about people hunting in the off season to feed their families, I know of several folks who do it. They're working poor and I'd rather they hunt their food than beg the state or use food pantries. However I have no sympathy for trophy hunter poachers, who shoot big bucks in the off-season (when they're not as worried about hunters) and cut the head off and leave the carcass to rot. I've found several while hiking in the forests around here.

What a jerk he is. It's estimated that only 1 ou of 1,000 sea turtle hatchlings even make it to adulthood, and this guy just does this to really mess up the survival of the turtle's species.

i'm by far no expert, but i think turtles are really cool...i have tattoo of one, i have a sticker of one on my car, and until recently i had 2 red-ear sliders, which we gave to friends of ours.

i think poachers of turtles, and of any other animal, should always be prosecuted to the full extent of the law

I'm not taking his side or anything, but if that's true he only really took out 30% of an adult.

Giant tortoise wasn't given a Latinate scientific name for hundreds of years because no specimens ever made it back to England intact, having been eaten by the sailors before they got back home. Apparently, they were described as far superior to pork, chicken, or mutton.

Execution maybe a little harsh but 20+ years may do the trick for a repeat offender. Now he has been caught twice. No telling how many eggs he's poached and didnt get caught.

/I live not far from where this happened. I hate jagoffs that fark with sea turtle eggs.

And this isn't his first offense? Death penalty. I'm not even almost kidding. Much stricter punishments would see this kind of shiat stop.

I've done release of turtle hatchlings on several occasions, always hope they make it, though the odds are slim.
Even as a non-citizen resident of a foreign country, I have biatched at locals for consuming turtle eggs and would not hesitate to turn in anyone I knew that was actively in possession of them.
While deep sea fishing once, I inadvertently snagged a turtle, took me close to an hour to get him to the boat so I could cut the line wrapped around him.
In summation, I like turtles.

I'm not sure how sea turtle eggs work, but when I was a kid, we had two desert tortoises (you had to be registered with the state of CA) and they bred. The major thing was, once Mandy laid her eggs, we had to transfer them to an incubator VERY VERY carefully, because if the eggs were turned over or jostled, they were done, they wouldn't hatch. Eight out of ten eggs hatched, and we had a huge aquarium (no water) of cute tiny little desert tortoises that would climb all over each other and we had to keep constant watch and flip over any that ended up on their back.

Anyway, TFA says they reburied the eggs, but wouldn't the eggs be farked up by then?

/I know, CSB

There's plenty of them around here too, and they go shoot their elk, take it home and keep their mouths shut. Except since it's an elk, they usually give plenty of it away to their other poor neighbors. The game warden would have to catch them in the act to do anything, and well, it's a big land out there. The idiot poacher trophy hunters usually get turned in by taxidermists. Doesn't do you any good to shoot a massive animal if you can't take it to the taxidermist.

oh_please: Anyway, TFA says they reburied the eggs, but wouldn't the eggs be farked up by then?

Depends on how long they've been uncovered. Eggs do get uncovered and moved sometimes for conservation reasons, but they are pretty temperature sensitive. They probably just figured, "oh well, it's worth a try." If it was pretty warm that night (and I imagine it was) some of them might even still hatch.
