Can we stop phrasing things like the corporate entity PetSmart is a person. It can't make decisions, its a concept. The people in charge of it can make decisions. Corporate Personhood is one of the stupidest things people have come up with.

As long as they keep up with local cat adoptions in their stores I don't really care who owns them.  Our cats and my parents' cats were found thanks to them hosting cat adoptions in their stores.

I stopped licking the fish tanks at PetSmart over a year ago.

And I used to always pitch in a dollar for pet charity when I shopped there.  I really wonder what that charity's financial statement looks like.  I'm spending about $20 on food and litter for my cat, $1 to help homeless cats and dogs doesn't seem so bad, but I suspect the cats and dogs were blowing most of that dollar on hookers and blow.

Two private equity firms that each own about 10% of the stock want the company sold, probably to a holding company owned by the pair. Then they can sell off any assets and convert the company to an empty husk that operates via leasing everything back. Then they refloat the company via an IPO with and a much improve ROI, which looks better because it's a husk.

I hear the sound of jobs being eliminated in order to maximize shareholder value.  Sell to one of the other pet superstores.

I hope they don't do anything to the location by my house...or I'll have to start shopping at that filthy, even-more-expensive Petco across the street.

Corporations fark me more than my wife.

Better not do anything that changes the inventory. They're the only place around here that doesn't sell the shiat dog food.

Corporations are groups of people. Groups of people can make decisions. This isn't rocket surgery.

That's not what they'll say publicly. You know they'll be maximizing efficiencies and removing negative items from the balance sheet.

Seriously, why do people listen to vulture capitalists? The market either reigns these idiots in or it's going to die slowly. You can't have a bureaucracy like Wall Street extracting so much wealth for so little value.

This. We will drive past the PetCo 5 mins away to go to the PetSmart 15 minutes away. (Not really an issue. We drive that way for work daily.) But PetSmart has better stock, is cleaner and more well run, cheaper, and an all around better shopping experience.

What's wrong with dropping it off in the nearest woods?  It's a farking cat!

I'm not sure how Petco stays in business.  Their stores are always near a Petsmart, but they're always dingier and way more expensive.  I don't get it at all.

So much this. Before my black lab passed away we'd go to PetSmart just so she could get out of the house and go for a ride. Everyone there is nice and the store is spotless. Petco was the exact opposite and my dog freaked out going in there. She hated getting groomed there. PetSmart she would walk in a wag her tail at the groomers

true but if you need it today Petsmart is convenient and dog food prices are as good as they get plus they will take back anything so if you dog destroys the toy or bed you bought it just bring it back for refund or replacement, no questions asked.

//My Rottweiler can fark up some toys so this is a solid advantage for me.

Yes, their return policy is very good.  A long time ago my cats didn't like a new type of litter we bought from them.  We were able to exchange the remainder of the litter for store credit no problem.  They don't carry the cat food brand we feed, but we always buy the litter from them.  Even when they don't have it on sale (and they often do have it on sale), it's still several dollars cheaper than Petco or ordering online.

I refuse to shop at PetSmart or its competitors because they sell animals like puppies and kittens
who look really pathetic....because their lives are pathetic.  If you were a puppy or kitten stuck in
a big-box pet shop, wouldn't you want to leave?  (Speaking of pet shops...."We've got a gorilla for
sale / Magilla Gorilla for sale....Won't you buy him? Take him home and try him? Gorilla for sale.")

All the dogs and cats at my local PetSmart come from the local animal shelter.

All of PetSmarts cats are solely for adoption and are from a local shelter that partners with the store. There are no dogs for adoption in regular PetSmart stores, but there are frequent adoption events held that include dogs.
