(USA Today)   New study shows that if you have daughters, you'll be well cared-for in your old age. But if you have sons, you'll probably die alone and be eaten by your cats   (usatoday.com) divider line 140

What does it mean if your daughter moves across the country and leaves you her cat?

That she's in college?

Daughter has MS. I will likely outlive her unless a new gen of drugs appears.

Counting on my money leading to a Swedish housekeeper.

That's if you survive at all.

Have you seen teenage girls these days? Animals.

sorry mom.

I have both?

I should be developing early onset dementia any time now due to a head injury in a car wreck so I won't likely notice anyway.

Me too. So mathematically... my cat will be well cared-for?

That's why you gotta support feminism. Better opportunities for the more caring children -> nicer retirement community/more time with annoying grandkids

The study just shows that the chicks spend more time than the dudes.  Seems to me it indicates that the dudes completed whatever the tasks were with less fiddly farting around.  Work smarter not harder.  Call me when they do a study on the amount of work done and not how long was spent on doing it.

The study conducted by Angelina Grigoryeva, a doctoral candidate in sociology at Princeton University, found that daughters provide an average of 12.3 hours of care to their elderly parents per month, compared to sons' 5.6 hours

Whoa, whoa, whoa there.  You have to factor in that men are paid, on average, 30% more for the same work, with puts a man's equivalent total work value at much closer to 8 lady part hours.  That's a whole work day.  Then you have to factor in the women probably spend those extra 4.3 hours actually, like, spending TIME with their parent(s).  How do you expect men to do that?

I have 2 boys. 1 severely autistic and the other...average. We will never be able to afford to send him to college and I doubt he will have the drive after puberty to go through college on his own.

Were farked. If were lucky my wife and I will be killed in our sleep without waking up. Possibly by the dogs or cats, they love us enough.

I think it's pretty clear that boys are made of snips and snails and puppy dog tales, while girls are made of sugar and spice and everything nice. *

My parents only had boys. We are moving continually farther away. They have a Yorkie, who would eat them now if he could get one of them alone for long enough.

I'd rather have someone else's daughter take care of me in my old age. If you know what I mean.

In all seriousness I suspect that the daughters didn't move as far from home as the sons. Men have more chance for social mobility (up or down) while women tend to have less but have less risk.

Knew a family with adult daughter, her mother and her mother's mother (we'll call her grandmother). Mother got really bad Alzheimer's to the point she was in worse condition than grandmother. Daughter spent the 10 or so years getting mother through it, basically having to be attached to the hip. Had to lock the mother in her room at night because she'd wander away, they'd hear her banging around in the middle of the night. Cost her a lot in lost wages and quality of life. Mother finally dies and the other two siblings crawl out of the woodwork with their hands out trying to get a piece of the mother's very modest sized house.

If you and your S.O. didn't go to college; your boy MAY qualify for a pell grant, if they still exist when he gets ready to go to college. If not, try to get him to go to a community college; tuition is about a 1/3 or a 1/4 of a big school to start out. And rural state schools, like OU or KU, charge less for out of state tuition than in state school tuition on the coasts.

/ my college admissions board tried to sign me up for a pell grant, because they thought that I was Hispanic and neither of my parents had passed high school; which was very odd since both of them and all of my aunts and uncles are alumni of the college I chose and none of us are Hispanic.

Let me see (clicks on Calculator)...

5 years of assisted living at $3000 per month = $180,000
3 more years at full-care nursing home, $9000 per month = $324,000
Mother's SSI and retirement income, $2000 per month = $192,000
Total cost to ragsthetiger to care for his invalid mother from 2006 until 2013 = $312,000, including the house and furnishings he had to sell (his entire inheritance).

Yeah, I'm such a freaking ne'er-do-well.
Fark you, Angelina Grigoryeva
