Great role model for the kids.  Yes, it got a little dusty that afternoon.

After seeing so many wrong coaching skills this summer, it really moved me.

Damn.

I gotta say, this LLWS is incredibly fun to watch and these kids are talented beyond belief (I wish I had that talent when I was playing!)  And even though I'm rooting for Chicago, I really enjoyed this team from Rhode Island and their coach was amazing throughout the tourney.  Those kids were lucky to have him.

Now let's go JWS!  Keep it going!!!

Yeah, I'm rooting for the team from Philly. Between the FARq changes and them going all the way, a lot of Farkers' heads will explode.

Good job coach! You got style.

This is about the 4th reference I've seen to changes on Fark.  I'm in the dark here - is there a notice of these changes somewhere?  Did I miss an email?  Is that why that strange guy from India kept calling me?  Thanks.

Got a feeling the Mo'Ne Davis train is going to crash bad against Vegas. ESPN is going to have to find a new story to push.

Yeah, Vegas completely stomped Chicago, and that was right after Chicago came off an impressive win.  They look unbeatable.

And for ESPN, there's Ruy Martinez - the little 4' 8" dude for Mexico who absolutely put on a clinic today in their slaughter of Venezuela.  Kid's got some skills.

If that kid that pitched for them against Chicago pitches. That guy is the best pitcher I've seen in the LLWS this year. Not only does he have power, but he has a tremendous off speed pitch and knows how to locate it and move it around.

a little too much at the end, but overall a great coaching moment to end a great season...

Pretty normal response to a big loss, which is a good thing. Not sure why this guy is getting national sports fellatio over his speech. I guess because the cameras were on? oh well.

They're farking 12!!  They are also better than 99% of the other kids in the world.  They will remember this for the rest of their lives, and the coach was just trying to remind them how special a moment in their lives this is.  Just making it to Williamsport is an incredible accomplishment.

My kid plays in a rival Chicago Little League system, so it's cool to see the kids from the next park over go as far as the JRW team has.

Since we live on the South Side of Chicago, it's also nice to hear about 11-12 year old black boys and not have it include gunfire.

not trolling. I just have a more realistic opinion of the event.

definitely not worthy of hero tag, maybe spiffy or cool. irl, a dignified nod and a "good for you, kids", not a speech in the middle of the field with national media coverage; that's what cheapens it and turns it schlocky instead of inspirational.

/full disclosure, little league was not enjoyable for me.

I'm cool with a cool or spiffy tag too.  But the national spotlight was ESPN, not the coach.  They mic all the coaches.  He was just talking to his team of kids, helping them deal with a loss, which was probably the biggest disappointment of their young lives.  I just found it dusty as hell.  The world could use more people like that.

Baseball isn't enjoyable for me. I can't wait for soccer to eclipse this dying relic of American sport and even I can appreciate the speech.

ESPN wisely left off the last few minutes,

"Oh, and one more thing, boys. I know this probably doesn't mean anything, but I ran into a few of your dads a couple hours before the game, and they said they were going into town to buy new belts. I only bring it up, because, Timmy, your dad has only worn suspenders ever since I've known him. Probably nothing, but I wouldn't bring up that stolen base you gave up in the 5th."

detroitdoesntsuckthatbad: Baseball isn't enjoyable for me. I can't wait for soccer to eclipse this dying relic of American sport and even I can appreciate the speech.

So, you're planning to live to be a thousand years old then? You sound like one of those people from 20-30 years ago who saw the big numbers for AYSO participation and made the leap from "parents just want to have their kids run around chasing a ball for a few hours a week" to "No, all those AYSO kids will become huge soccer fans, it'll be more popular, soon, honest, I swear!". I'm a huge fan of English league football (and the Bundesliga too), but it's never likely to be much more popular than it is now, just like American football, NFL style, will never be very popular outside of US borders where there aren't a lot of military people/ex-pats.

I just watch the LLWS to see the kids crying after they've been eliminated.

I also show up at the local elementary schools on the first and last days of the school year.

The first day you have the 5 year olds crying because they're leaving their mommies for the first time. And then you follow the mommies home for some 'adult fun'.

The last day you get the 12 / 13 year olds crying because they're never coming back to that school again. And some of those girls have 'grass on the field'...

/C'mere and give me a big hug!

Yeah, but ESPN, the sponsors, and their corporate masters are exploiting the hell out of these kids and making a fortune off the sweat of their labor.  The kids get nothing in return and we should be ashamed for allowing it to happen.

"But what's important, boys, is that you spent a considerable amount of the precious, limited time of your formative years obsessing over a game that will have absolutely no impact on anything outside of the ballpark in which you're playing, and you could have wasted that time reading or learning something."
