COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - An owl flew into a 10th story apartment in Coeur d'Alene, apparently opened a bird cage and killed one of two canaries inside, the residents said.

Another lying subby. That is an awesome ending!

Sue and Don Sausser found one of their canaries dead in the cage. The other seemed jumpy and anxious, they said.

You don't say.

They probably caught the owl, tried to put it in the cage, and it ate the other bird and escaped.
And they concocted this story to get in the news.

/everything is fake

Fact: owls have the strongest talons of any bird. They are literally capable of breaking your arm just by landing on it. Only the smallest owls do bird trainers let land on their hands, and then, only with gloves just shy of chain mail.

Right. An idiot at work also believed that Canada Geese can break your femur by hitting it with their wing. I'm sure owls have strong sharp talons but not magical. They're not very heavy and it takes immense strength to break arm bones.

So, is this guy stupid https://www.flickr.com/photos/106621223@N02/13679783244/ or is the Great Horned Owl a small owl?

This could have been prevented if those canaries had been armed.

They leave the sliding glass door open on summer nights and apparently, do not have a screen door for it.
I'm no wildlife, or screen door expert, but that is highly unusual as it is.

Anyway, as long as I've ever had any bird as a pet, I'd never leave it outside over night - even locked in its cage - because all you need is that one time, ya know... snakes, birds of prey, spiders, evil scientist with a laser beam / death ray type of incident and you've just killed your bird.

having a sliding glass door wide open without a screen door... same thing as just chucking the birds on the balcony.

It's a LARGE owl. The females are larger and average 3.5 pounds. Yes, that's a period there.
