(Washington Post)   Obama decides to head back to D.C. because really, when we think of "good leadership" we think of a man who is hated by most people, wigged out on stress, hasn't had a day to relax in 6 years and has his hands on the nuclear football   (washingtonpost.com) divider line 288

Here's how it works:

Event X happens. Obama does Y, the right complains he should have done Z. The only somewhat interesting part is whether they go for empty suit or out of control tyrant.

Funny how a bunch of people who refuse to follow are pretty sure it's a leadership issue.

The phrase "a man who is hated by most people" assumes facts not in evidence.

This is how propaganda works, people. Keep repeating untrue things until people accept them and forget that they're untrue.

So we're back to nothing he can do is the right thing.

"Look at him, on vacation when x, y, and z are going on."
"Look at him, x,y, and z are so important, and he's going back to work with no rest."

Nothing the man does can satisfy anyone. As if the President's vacations are somehow isolated from everything, anyway.  Maybe he's not at the White House, but he's - and this stands for any President - not on some isolated beach, sleeping his days away, drunk off his ass on margaritas, where nobody can find him or knows where he is and his cell phone was left at home.

Of course, acknowledging that requires people to be reasonable. We can't have that.

Classic Rovian projection.  Bush spends 100 days a year at his ranch.  Obama spends five days in Martha's Vineyard and is worse than Hitler.

Personally, I've never cared about Presidents taking vacation (yes, even Bush).  The President is on call 24 hours a day and is just as capable of leading from Camp David or Air Force One as he is from the White House.  With modern technology, the President can govern from essentially anywhere.  In those rare instances where he might not be able to, the Veep and Cabinet can handle things until he regains full access.  Of all of the things to criticize a President for, vacations are the dumbest.

The whitehouse has a magical chair called the presidentin' chair.  It was made from the cherry tree that George Washington chopped down.

His president powers only work when he's sitting in that chair.

Why? First of all, as much as the right wants us to have the memory of a goldfish, it's well documented that both of the Bushes took more vacation time than Obama, a shiatton more.

Second, "working on his ranch"? Are you farking kidding me?

Even aside from the ZOMG OBAMA/BUSH horseshiat, the headline is basically the definition of the POTUS position.

All you gotta do is look at photos of any given President at his inauguration and in his last months in office. That gig ages a person hard.

Hey, someone had to clear that pre-cut sagebrush on that former pig farm. And he also liked to order Pararescue to travel to Crawford to go for a run with him. That was important too, it made him feel big and butch.
