I'm so confused.

That's not how nutjobs work.
This isn't how any of this works.

I'm also surprised the Neo-Confederates and the NRA haven't whitesplained to us all about the "Negro" some more since this all went down.

As I recall, they were silent about the Bundy assholes too.

A google of "NRA Bundy ranch", "Wayne LaPierre Bundy ranch", and "NRA.org Bundy ranch" brought up a bunch of links to MSNBC, DailyKos, Huffington Post, ThinkProgress, and  MediaMatters, but nothing from the NRA to a depth of at least a couple pages.

Larry Pratt from GOA (Gun Owners of America - the organization that makes the NRA seem wishy-washy on gun rights) did say something, but he's not a fan of the NRA, obviously, considering them too eager to compromise.

I was assured the Tea Party does not see race, and that any attempts to show otherwise prove that someone else are the real racists.
And if you can believe anyone, it's the Tea Party.

FTFA: On August 12, Obama released a statement on Ferguson that reads like a first draft of a generic and overly long "Get Well Soon" card. This is particularly saddening when one considers that the day before, he released a witty and heartfelt ode to Robin Williams. It took him mere hours to respond to the death of an entertainer, but days to respond to a very serious civil rights crisis.

True dat. Perhaps he thought it would inflame local racial tensions more if he intervened right away. Since reactionary elements are already highly sensitized against him, he's stayed away from directly inserting himself into certain social contexts until tensions subside.

They have another version of that complaining that he trampled states rights and should have given the locals time to work it out

Should be full joking:  The NRA helped to arm blacks in order to fight off the likes of the KKK:    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_F._Williams#Black_Armed_Guard

In fact, the NRA was founded by former *UNION* officers, whereas the KKK was founded by former *CONFEDERATE* officers.  Something Michael Moore conveniently skipped over in his little cartoon in "Bowling for Columbine".

Yes, and Southern Democrats fought against the Civil Rights movement:

"In the name of the greatest people that have ever trod this earth, I draw the line in the dust and toss the gauntlet before the feet of tyranny, and I say segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever. " - Alabama Governor George Wallace (D), 1963.

Also, note that the NRA that was nervous about the Black Panthers arming themselves in California was the Fudd NRA, prior to the 1977 Cincinnati Revolt.

Which, BTW, brings up something I've always said:  Most gun control is enacted to prevent Black people from having guns, and you pointed to a perfect example of it.  California passed laws against open carry of long arms *SPECIFICALLY* because Black people, to whit, the Black Panthers, were lawfully carrying them

O'RLY?

Fark Headline: "AJ Asks, where's the Tea Party..."

Actual TFA Headline:

i.imgur.com

FTFA: But the Tea Party, the NRA, and their ilk have been almost completely silent on the issue. Their sites instead are sending out the usual reports on illegal immigration and (white) citizens' rights to carry assault rifles in public. The Libertarians had nothing to say until August 14. So, perhaps we should now be allowed to say out loud what we've known all along: That these organisations are not interested in liberty, but instead are focused on white supremacy at all costs. Perhaps in lieu of material support or a statement of solidarity, we can ask them to simply admit that they are uninterested in black and brown people.

He is irrefutably talking about the Neo-Confederates. You could argue that they shouldn't be all lumped together the way he does, but you aren't going to be successful in saying he and the Opinion Editors at AJ aren't talking about them.

2014-08-18 10:11:17 AM

dittybopper: Yes, and Southern Democrats fought against the Civil Rights movement:

The Civil Rights movement in terms of voting politics was about the liberal wing of both the Democratic Party and the liberal wing of the Republican Party coming together to overcome the conservative wings of both parties. Again, this is not news, nor does it change or challenge a single assertion TFA makes.

And the John Birch "Tea Party" NRA Neo-Confederates of their time supported it, as you pointed disarming Black people. Thanks for conceding the point.

The NRA is moving away from being exclusively on the Fudd side (and has been since 1977, to the dismay of the Fudds) and more towards a big tent where they don't care about what you look like or do so long as you support the right to keep and bear arms.

But yeah, it's just old white guys.

actually asking why they went somewhere to 'defend' a white guy who wasn't shooting, wasn't burning others stores down, wasn't stealing anything (you could say grass that his cows were eating) but comparing that to the police trying to quell actual riots is kind of an asinine comparison.
