Doesn't matter. The headline gets the front page. the retraction gets 2 column inches in the back next to the toilet paper coupons. Or as Fox news would do it (were Rick a Dem that is) "is RICK PERRY a CRIMIINAL? tune in at 11 and find out, then at 11, later in our show find out if RICK PERRY is a CRIMINAL. then around 11:55.. and finally is RICK PERRY a CRIMIINAL? no and now a word from our sponsor Charmin bathroom tissue"

I'm curious who the "former Prosecutor" is. It's not Mr. Chait. Is it "Patterico"?

Uh huh. Sure. Right.
We believe you.

Is it as laughable as the Benghazi hearings?  Or suing Obama?

On a scale of 1-10 Issas, how laughable is it?

2014-08-17 11:57:00 AM
It's pretty clear he broke the law. It's also crystal clear conservatives are a bit ambivalent about which laws matter so they write drivel like that. So with Perry:

Obviously more serious than trespassing on closed federal grounds.

Probably worse than not paying your grazing debts to Uncle Sam.

But not near as serious as parading around with a sign after curfew in St. Louis.

So at least we know they won't send a SWAT team after him to serve a warrant or anything.

Is it as laughable as sending the national guard down to patrol the border. Each one getting something like 2 miles to guard, 24 hours a day while paying for it by cutting "non essential" spending like transportation and health care. Is that laughable?

My outrage over his abuse of power against a drunk driving DA who was abusing power is pretty minimal

The cool part is if the prosecution gets traction FAUX will start calling him "Gov. Perry (D)"

It seems like the evidence is very public information. If it's not illegal to withhold funding until someone resigns, it should be.

So it's OK if he abuses his power if it's for some reason you don't care about?

The problem for Perry is when you live in a world of partisan hackery it can occasionally boomerang.

IF this is a plot, it is a complex plot by the dems to increase his support by being a victim so he does win the nomination and loose in spectacular fashion and setting the GOP back another 8 years. The man is a walking hairdo.

Just like the outrage over a dead kid is dampened by the discovery that he was probably just looking for trouble all along. Whatever it takes to relieve the momentary dissonance.

So in your mind, when Senator Ted Stevens was indicted, the President would have been right to withhold all federal funds from Alaska unless he resigned immediately?

This is what it boils down to for me as well.

Additionally there are other factors such as what are the circumstances of the DUI, and it's fairly coincidental to veto the budget of the department that is investigating you.

You don't actually know what suing people is and how the court system works in this country, do you.

And if you do, are you intentionally trying to make yourself look stupid?  Why?  What does that accomplish?  Why would someone even DO that?

If nothing else, this entire episode might force a few other GOP officials around the country to start keeping their noses clean. America is supposed to run on a system of checks and balances... but high-level state officials tend to go unchecked. Even if nobody goes to prison, I'll sleep a little better knowing that a politician became permanently unelectable after being caught breaking the law.

You sure cram a lot of wrong into one sentence. Let's break it down...

So radical righties suing Obama is horrible...

Nope. Bring it on. It makes your side look ridiculous, not mine.

But radical lefties suing Perry...

Who? This is news to me.

...is progressive and brilliant?

No, it's nonexistent. It's not happening.

I didn't realize that the Republican special prosecutor who brought the charges was a leftie, much less a radical one.

2014-08-17 01:23:22 PM
IMO this indictment is pointless politics that has no merit.

Heard on the radio that the prosecutor was a one time political opponent of Perry's and is a Democrat. Seems he is wants to sink Perry out of some sense of vindictiveness. Either that or he made a deal with Jeb to help taint the rest of the field for '16. Let's face it, Perry is no match for Hillary in the next go around. This wasnt an organized attempt by Democrats.

Not saying that Perry has not done anything illegal, but those activities are not in this indictment. Again, IMO. I have no GED in law.

2014-08-17 01:24:21 PM
The charges made it through a grand jury. It's not just an information filed by a hack prosecutor with political ambitions.

That leads me to believe they're not that thin.

Now, now. If we're gonna troll, let's at least TRY to get it right.

Obama is being sued. Perry has been INDICTED. You see, indictment implies criminal wrongdoing. Being sued by congress implies your political opponents are all butthurt.

See how easy that was?
