Been down this road.

Luckily there are "replacement" spouts available (but only if you use your can for water). Amazon has them- depending on what state you live in-or google away.

California.  The state that decided to troll every vision impaired person by putting a triangle on the sign for men's rest room even though the triangle of a dress had been customary for more than half a century.

It was designed by the State of California to minimize noxious emissions.

they turned their Sauron-like gaze upon the evil, fume-spewing, toxin-dripping gas can as the next target of their regulatory empire.

*rolls eyes*

Yeah, pretty sure the rest of this isn't going to be worth reading.  *Ctrl-W*

There's tao that I have now. One requires you twist the nozzle and gas doesn't flow unless you push the nozzle into the tank and press down. In which case you can't see how much gas is going in.

The other kind I have has the nozzle as a tube coming off the tank with a button on the other end. You tip the entire can and then press the button to let gas flow. This doesn't require putting the nozzle in the tank so is easier to use and fill. Both prevent accidental spills if it falls or gets knocked over.

I'm blown away by the timeliness of this article so much it gave my tie a stiffy.

/Also, gas can isn't that hard to figure out.

This is like one of those infomercials, right? The blogger is outside with his gas can and mower, begins to fill the tank, then hilariously throws the can 20 yards, looks at the camera with his best "Why Me?" face, while his wife holds a "Thanks Obama" sign in the foreground?

Typical American "kill a mosquito with a nuclear bomb" action by the US government and "who cares it's only..." reaction by the governed.

First off, Blake, your blog and your crappy name, worthy of the highest mocking by the likes of Saint George Carlin himself, suck.

Second, as someone who's been using the same gas can for at least thirty years, WTF is this guy babbling on about?

I have a can like that.  Its only hard to use if you're an old person

Does this mean people have stopped biatching about light bulbs and moved on already?

A departing gift from the Bush Administration was a new regulation concerning the design of gas cans. Ignorant people like to blame Obama, but the law was enacted by Bush and took effect just before Bush left office.

Basically new gas cans don't work and smart people just mod them so that they work like the old cans. Honestly, some smartass needs to just get the balls to sell old style cans but label them for non-potable water use only.

A year or so ago, I was filling up with gas, and an old woman was filling one gallon water jugs with gas.  While the jugs were sitting on the floor of the backseat of her car.

I keep my gas in a Styrofoam cooler and scoop it out with a big red plastic party cup.

I did that once when I ran out of gas. Halfway back to my car the milk jug just melted.

Yeah, I had one of those.  I "fixed" it.

In which case you can't see how much gas is going in.

For precisely that reason. A gas station pump has an auto-shutoff, your gas can does not. So you either spill gasoline everywhere or you undo the work some faceless bureaucrat required all in the name of "saving the planet." How does spilling gas everywhere save the farking planet?

Now, to get around the CARB silliness both Atlantic British (AB) and Deutsche Optik (DO) mark their cans as not suitable for gasoline; AB uses stickers, while DO has their cans embossed with "Not For Fuel Use".

Is it a crime to dispense fuel into a container marked not for fuel use?

As someone who has bought gas cans in the last couple years the CARB-compliant spouts are a damn muthafarking pieces of shiats!
Most times I got so frustrated I just took out the spout and pour straight out splling a bunch of gas!
So much for trying to to 'save' the environment or make things safer.
Fark regulations!

I bought one recently to replace the gas can I had for about 15 years.  It took me once or twice to get the gist of how to use the CARB-compliant spout, but seriously, it's not that farking hard.

I was in New Jersey in the aftermath of hurricane Sandy. Gasoline was in very short supply and people were grabbing all they could get.

A guy was stopped with an SUV full of 5-gallon buckets sloshing around in the back. Good thing he wasn't a smoker.

TFA refers to regulations that appear to be California-specific and go above and beyond whatever stupidity the EPA foisted off on us regardless of who's been president. Calfornia law bans the sale of old-school jerry cans, in case you were wondering.

Here's my CSB:

I bought a gas can to hold premix for a new moped. All that was available were stupid, socialist america-hating CARB fellating gas cans. No big deal, I thought. But because the can isn't vented, while sitting in my shed, which had direct sunlight hitting it, the damn thing burst.

I'm over dealing with gas/ethanol/stabilizers/rebuilt carburetors/etc. I bought a battery powered mower and haven't looked back.  Of course I only have about 1/3 of an acre to mow.

I have a couple of new gas cans and I have absolutely no idea what problem I'm supposed to be seeing. They seem just fine to me. I have no difficulty operating them compared to older cans. Maybe this guy just bought a shiatty one.

This dude is going on like "the gub'mint" sent a couple of big, hairy, sweaty guys out to his house to hold him down and teabag him or something.

"Oh no, a government made a law that impacts pretty much nothing anyone else would even have noticed in order to try and marginally improve safety/cleanliness around how we handle a ubiquitous but dangerous substance... oooooh! So scary! It's like 9/11 times eleventy bo-jillion! Martian law! MARTIAN LAW!! The first few times I used the new style, I hated them. I thought I was smart enough to just figure them out. I wasn't.

Now that I know how they work, they are pretty simple and easy to use, just not intuitive.

Troll much blogger.  World is changing, get used to it.  Been using the can for a few years now and "drum roll please" it works better than my old can.  Not letting reality get in the way of a good rant this guy must be an aspiring radio talk show host.
