How do you make it to 30, especially living next to the great lakes, without learning how to swim?

Yeah...right...what happens during a flood in Detroit, stays in a flood in Detroit.

Did you want her to make a long, poetic speech about the ordeal?

She was surprised to learn she had apparently died. That would be a stressful and surprising situation. So she responded "I was like, 'really?'l

All intensive purposes, I think your being judgmental.

It may seem that way, but all floods are born evil and will turn you when you least suspect. My Pappy used to say "The only good flood is a dead flood!"

A heroic stranger appeared instead. The man pulled David out of the car, hefted her onto his shoulder and waded through chest-deep water to a nearby restaurant, Buddy's Pizza.

Apparently her rescuer was 20 feet tall.

It sounds like she started to panic when she couldn't get out of the car, and passed out shortly afterwards.

As far as not being able to swim, some people just manage to not ever learn for whatever reason.  And there's no telling where she grew up, only that she's a grad student at Wayne State currently.

1. She couldn't open the door.
2. It's deeper in certain parts of the roads. The roads go up and down a lot. So, she could have been underwater, pulled out and then waded through chest high water.
3. In some parts of Detroit, it was 16 ft deep, just not that particular part.

No issues for me, thankfully. I did get a day off of work because the highways were a mushy wreck.

But my sump pump is not pleased.

If you don't learn as a child, it is more difficult to learn as an adult, not to mention embarrassment.

I understand that the water was 387 feet deep on parts of the Detroit freeway system and she was miles from shore anyway, so a lot of good knowing how to swim would have done.

FTA:

She frantically called the fiance and father, but the floods were moving too fast.

Interesting that she had the presence of mind to make two phone calls in the middle of a flash flood, but not to open one of the windows (DC powered windows should work for a time while submerged).

I wonder if she live-tweeted the event too.

Peeublic Peeools and C(sh)ity canals are not nice places to swim and not many city people dig on camping like rural types.
