That is because Microsoft™ Xbox One™ is the hardcore platform for hardcore gamers.  Microsoft™ never cared about selling the most consoles or even making money.  All they wanted to do is make people happy, and you ruined it.  You ruined it because you hate the things that make videogames great.  You hate Microsoft™ and the Xbox One™.

Microsoft has a very annoying tendancy to try and tell people what they want without actually taking time to find out what people actually want.

Console gamers generally want a gaming system not a full media control center complete with peeper cameras that watch them masterbate while eating cheetos.

People are idiots. As a PS3 owner I remember when everyone was saying it cost too much, nobody would develop for the Cell, it wasn't selling, it was the next Dreamcast, there were no good exclusive games, and Sony was farked. Meanwhile, it went on to sell fine (probably worldwide more units that the 360 despite coming out a year later) and most XBox exclusives came out for it anyway, and not the other way around.

Now for some reason people have decided to direct the same irrational hatred on the XBox One, despite it basically being the same as the PS4. Seems like it basically comes down to which one is released first, because those who bought it have to rationalize not waiting for the later one.

Not that I have an XB1 to get it anyway, but I'm disappointed the Halo Collection left out Reach and ODST.  Yeah, I know it's the "Master Chief" collection, but those two games were two of the best in the series.  Certainly better than Halo 2 and 4.  Reach was a gorram Firefly reunion for fark's sake.

I'm more intrigued by the ad-hominem flavor of the moment:  fanboy.  I'm intrigued by the fact that both in the article comments and here, fanboy is used as a defense against the subject:  PS4 is selling more, and has been for nearly a year.

The fascination is that those calling out the term are the actual 'fanboys'.  They are XB1 owners who are in denial that their investment, which they undoubtedly worked hard (even if it was mowing the lawn for mommy) to obtain, is already reaching it's end of life cycle.  They instinctively know that as marketshare drops, desire from developers to innovate for the platform will dwindle.  They get pissy, and lash out at what they know.

They often say we hate in others what we know in ourselves.

/no, I don't own either.

I want an Xbox One but I'm waiting for the price drops and the flood gates to open on games (Nintendo is hitting that part). Sadly, I can't justify dropping $400-500 to get one.

People said the same about the PS3 but it became the console to own towards the end of the last generation. It's only been a year, don't call it dead yet

Sony has a built in consumer base of Japan. Xbox doesn't. Sony sold PS3s at a loss to push Blu ray as well. Sony also had the technically superior system at the time.

This isnt the same circumstances.

I made games for the Xbox 360 and PS3, the PS3 was absolute shiat to work on. I hate the PS3. It was the absolute worst. The Xbox 360 was actually pretty easy to work with. We only ever made PS4 games when the folks who are paid to figure this stuff out, determined that the manpower to go multi-platform made enough money to be worth it.

This generation it appears to be the opposite way around with the Sony one being the nice one to work with.

There's a lot more to a console than the hardware and when it was released. The Xbone originally had a lot of really stupid requirements. Slowly taking those away doesn't suddenly turn sales around. People are wary of buying an Xbone because they don't want to get boned when policy changes again.

It didn't help that the 360 was really slim on JRPGs when it came to their Japanese sales.  It seemed to take forever to get an exclusive title, and we ended up with Blue Dragon.

My wife recently wanted to get a console, and we decided on the Xbox One. If I'd done a bit more research I'd have probably chosen a PS4, but having said that I can't say I'm disappointed with the Xbox. I do with it had more games available, but the list of games due out before the end of the year is promising, and as much as games cost it's probably good that there aren't a bunch for me to buy bankrupt myself with right now.
I do dislike the fact that Xbox Live subscriptions are either one month or one year with no three or six month options, but that's hardly a deal breaker given the one year subscription price. The games I have are fun to play and look great. The kinect offers some very handy features when playing games (It's nice to just say "GPS hideout" when playing need for speed and have the route light up on my mini-map) and the degree to which it pays attention can be set very easily. For example, mine only listens when I'm playing a game. If the console is off (or on, but not playing a game) it isn't listening for commands.
The PS4 is definitely outselling the Xbox, but in terms of competition, anyone who owns (either) one and enjoys using it is the winner.

2014-08-16 12:56:32 PM
What got PS3 into the mud were sony pushing it as Trojan horse for Blu ray. As a result cost shot up. Secondly, cell complex architecture put a lot of developers down, not to mention  memory bottleneck. These are the main reasons why PS3 had a rocky start.

Ive got them both.  I prefer the Xbone personally, but both will ultimately be great systems.... I say 'will be' because both are quite literally beta products that are constantly receiving enormous updates.  And both lack games.  Thats my biggest gripe.... no AAA games to play spare a couple.

I thought it was because Playstations always outsold XBoxes on a consumer basis, but XBox had more repeat customers from people replacing failed hardware.

I notice that in most Microsoft ads. It's not "hey look at the things you can do with Microsoft X," it's some smug actor saying "minor feature Y of lets me do some mundane thing on my Microsoft X, try and do that on Competitor Z."
As a happy user of all sorts of gadgets, I find it condescending to continually be told by Microsoft that I can only do something I already do if I switch to their product because it has Office, a keyboard, Kinect or whatever. One feature doesn't make a product, and hearing an actor tell me that it does only makes me think that actor is a dick representing dick company who knows nothing about how people use the gadgets they're pitching.

I don't care what anyone says or thinks, I like my Xbox One.  I like the voice controls, I like telling the Xbox to record something, I like the screen snapping, I like the ability to seamlessly switching between game, tv, and xbox desktop without closing anything.  I've played some good games so far, but there are definitely a lot more that are due to come out which I'm looking forward to.

The only things I don't like about it are some of the UI stuff.  Achievements in particular are more annoying to look at.  Although they track better (assuming the dev utilizes this), I don't want to have to click on each achievement to get more information.  I will admit that the voice controls are a problem when playing a networked game (or if there is any talking in the room).  I've had games that keep taking me to the pause menu when I'm talking in party chat.  It's a minor inconvenience since I don't play competitively, but it's still a problem.  And much like the Playstation, I hate that I have to install my games to the hard drive especially since the hard drive is too small for the amount of space each game seems to take up.  Once there's a bunch of arcade titles with episodic content, I'll be screwed (looking at you Telltale).

I also have a PS4, but really haven't used it much.  However, I will say that Sony greatly disappoints me because they have maintained their shiatty UI and awful controller.  I could be in the minority on this, but I absolutely hate these two things about the Playstation and every generation I hope that they fix it and they don't.  I just got a Playstation for the few exclusives they have like Naughty Dog titles.

Overall I rather play a game on Xbox than Playstation, but that's largely due to the controller.

I'm not claiming the PS3 was a home run, or that there weren't problems. But they don't match the rhetoric of the time, not even close.

It's unfortunate if GT5 wasn't all you hoped it would be, but that doesn't negate the big picture and make the PS3 a Dreamcast failure.  Like the 360 it had some flaws, but also some advantages.  It went on to sell about the same, and some of its exclusives are considered among the greatest games of all time.  Blu-Ray, which everyone said would go nowhere, is now in both next-gen systems.

The same will be true of the XBOne--people will have legitimate complaints but at the end of the day it'll be fine, have some wins, and life will go on. If I do get a next-gen system it'll probably be a PS4, but still I know overblown BS when I see it.

With no successor comming to Xbox-one for 5-6 years, it's obviously no way near its EOL.

Sony doesn't do exclusives either, so games will still be released in Xbox-one, where they'll cost the same, but run on a lower resolution.

I think the owners are more pissed that they paid more for an inferiour console. As would I be.

Gran Turismo = Built for console gamers to steal them away from PC driving simulators (there's bucketloads).

Forza = PC driving simulator. Without the need to buy thirteen new pieces of hardware to make it run.

Then there's the fact that Yamauchi even admitted he'll never have the money to make a real simulator - hence, why MS sued the BEJESUS out of them when they tried to say Gran Turismo was one for GT4.
