i'm still trying to figure out the appeal of Kiss. Grown men dressing up playing awful music. And now somebody actually cares what Gene Simmons has to say - on any subject? This is the decade of the mouth-breathing moron.

I love the Facebook post someone else wrote for him blaming the media for directly quoting the words that came out of his mouth.

Another shining paragon of Republican personal responsibility.

Well, if nothing else, the proto-Juggalo has... set tongues wagging

Simmons has been an asshole for years. I'm surprised this is what people are finally putting their foot down about.
/Kiss sucks.
//I like "Going Blind" (especially the Melvins' cover) and "God Gave Rock and Roll to You".

The Dixie Chicks empathize.

/didn't know any radio stations still played KISS anyway.
//don't care what anyone says, Detroit Rock City is a great song
///don't listen to music because of the musician's personality or political beliefs.

Gene Simmons should kill himself and leave his wife to me. I certainly killed enough kittens because of her. I'd like to try the real thing.

"The Triple M network can't and won't be playing or supporting this d***head's music. I put the challenge out to other stations across Australia and North America to also drop any of this nudnik's songs until such time as he reconsiders his thoughtless and insensitive position."

I'd just like to say how much I admire this press release.

I won't take them seriously until they dump a bucket of ice water over their heads after saying this.

Playing more AC/DC instead of KISS is a lateral move in quality at best.

For the sake of the people of Australia, I hope Gene Simmons sticks to his guns.

"My mother was in a concentration camp in Nazi Germany. I don't want to hear f**k-all about 'the world is a harsh place'.

So in addition to proper makeup application, safe sex, and not being a mouthy flippant twtt, the true scope and meaning of "the world is a harsh place" is yet another thing the Nazis didn't pass on to Gene Simmons' mother.

/What?   He started it.

If AC/DC starts spouting off nonsense about feminine hygiene, they'll be forced to switch to The Scorpions.  But no worries, they've lined up a fabulous type of gorilla that thrives on elderly Germans.

It's really interesting.

A lot of people are suddenly up in arms about any sort of "insensitive" talk about suicide - but a helluva lot of them are folks who have made a fair part of their living making jokes about that and other "sensitive" subjects.

They just suddenly discovered the issue because someone they like committed suicide - and they'll be back to their old routines in a few months, once the shock wears off...

Robin Williams last bowl movement had more raw talent than Gene Simmons ever will.

It one thing to be a hack, but you don't have be a first class asshole as well. Rot in hell Gene.

It's like why Star Wars became such a hit in the 70's: everything else at the time sucked. Bands were pretty boring and humdrum back then, and a group like KISS making a big circus act stood out. Plus there was all the controversy about Alice Cooper being a devil-worshipper who bit the heads off of bats that made Moms scared and preachers rich. KISS just took it up a notch.

If KISS tried to make their break in today's world, they'd barely last the Summer at best.

No wonder they lost the freaking war.

No mention being real classy using the Holocaust as an excuse for being an insensitive asshole. They should take the massive irony beat him about the head with it.

The network manager is an AW as well.  His statement is not about KISS, Simmons, or what he said, it is about drawing attention to him and his network.  Since he said the KISS has no relevance, why would they have to ban them?  They shouldn't have been in any rotation any way.

"Simmons went on to say he always calls people on their bluff if they are standing at the top a building saying they are going to jump."

Apparently, people in the vicinity of Gene Simmons frequently have an overwhelming urge to kill themselves.

Even if this were true, it wouldn't be interesting.

You must be young (or have a short memory) - the rest of us can remember the times this happened before.

Like the people who got upset about drunk driving when Sam Kinison died.

Or the ones who whined about smoking when Bill Hicks died.

Kurt Cobain? Lots of talk about suicide when he killed himself - by people who still write songs about romantic deaths.

Et bloody cetera.

Not a Kiss fan.

But I will tap my toes if I hear.

1. Rock n Roll All Night
2. God of Thunder
3. Hard Luck Woman
4. Detroit Rock City

Says the guy who's taken so off guard by human nature, he thinks shock wearing off is a coordinated nefarious business model.

You let us youngsters know when those ephemeral and superficial campaigns against drunk driving, smoking, and suicide hit those hills and valleys.  After all, our short attention spans need to be snapped back into reality every once in a while, and it takes the unwavering vigilance of wise elders like you.

/Kinison was killed by a drunk driver in 1992, 12 years after MADD was formed
//Hicks' entire act was a response to anti-smoking, anti-drinking, PC culture
///fairly certain suicide was a thing before Cobain ate his shotgun
////not sure how it is with you vigilant elderly folks, but public consciousness is not a fickle b*tch, solely dictated by fluctuations in the news cycle

No, it's because the public perception and understanding of mental illnesses has been evolving while you weren't looking.

I haven't been to one in 15 years so what difference does it make.

Radio stations do not play Kiss any more.

Simmons should do a tour with Ted Nugent. They can have Gallagher do a "comedy" break between their acts.

It's a definite step up.
Simmons has always been the Ray Kroc of music.
He's selling a product. If not for albums it would have been used cars.

Just an observation about ole Gene here.

All of the interviews I've seen and heard of this guy make me think he knows deep down that he's a hack who got lucky; no different than a lottery winner. He reminds me a lot of my uncles who love to browbeat people about the value of being bootstrappy; while glossing over the fact that they inherited millions from my grandfather.

Success gained by genuinely hard work, not just some cosmic alignment of circumstances, usually imparts a slight sense of humility upon the person who achieves it. Usually. It always seems to be the dickwads who inherit or stumble upon fortunes who want to make speeches to the great unwashed.

jso2897: Simmons should do a tour with Ted Nugent.

I'm not sure that would work out.  Simmons would have too big of an ego to let Nugent headline and Nugent would probably kill Simmons with a bow and arrow rather than let Simmons headline.

Personally, I think Nugent is the bigger jackass and more of a hack.

Simmons has this holier than thou attitude about drugs (including booze) because for some reason he's never been into them.

You know who else had a big ego and didn't do drugs and criticized people who committed suicide?

You say there ain't no light a-shinin'
Through the bushes up ahead
And we're all gonna be so sorry
When we find out you are dead

Go head on 'n get it over with then
Find you a bridge 'n take a jump
Just make sure you do it right the first time
'Cause nothin's worse than a Suicide Chump
