Beat me to it.

Or, $40K worth, for those who bothered to read TFA.  So just the "Star Wars" Millennium Falcon set.

Did Gumby catch them?

Plural of Lego is Lego, not Legos. Stop saying Legos. It makes you sound like a moron.

Is there really such a big black-market in Legos? What the fark was he going to do with 18 pallets of Legos? Build a house?

Pretty ballsy to steal one of the noisiest boxed toys from retail stores.  All Lego sets have that distinct sound when shaken.

/Had the Lego space monorail set, that was the bee's knees.

FTFY.  Still pretty neat.  But not a "house built from Legos".

Black market? Probably. Legos meet the criteria of expensive and highly sought after. This makes it possible to make a lot of money through illegitimate means.

Between craigslist, ebay, and various lego specific sites like BrickLink, you have a lot of venues to off-load your ill-gotten gains.

Yup.  "LEGO bricks" is the way Lego itself refers to the individual pieces.  Still, everyone knows what you mean if you say or type "Legos".  I'm sure the people who feverishly correct others on the correct way to refer to LEGO bricks also refer to the Minifigures as "Minifigs" without sensing the irony in doing so.

I would cut up the real Legos with some fake Legos to make even more money reselling them.

Alibaba have some kickass military brick sets, now that you mention it. Even sets inspired by the Red Cliff movie.

FTA: The rest of the Legos may have been purchased legitimately, or obtained fraudulently.

That narrows it down.

They are accused of removing the theft detection devices from the Lego sets, causing damage to the packaging.

Okay, I know how to hustle the rare unopened undamaged LEGO sets I find through Amazon. But if the factory seals are broken, or the box damaged, I won't fence your shiat.

Until you played with them for a few seconds.

Legos are expensive, but easily one of the best-built toys around.

Police are on the look-out for a very small multi-colored brick house.

I saw an exhibition of Lego which included a toy box built in the shape of the Parthenon. But if I were going to build a house I think I would go with Mega-Blox.

I would go with the Lincoln logs. Plastic bricks just aren't as homey. The insulating worth of either is probably a toss-up. Especially since the logs are probably made out of plastic now. So maybe the legos win on account of being colorful and cheery, rather than drab brown. Let me call my architect and see what he thinks, before we finalize my home plans.

A buddy claims he assembled two of those Millenium Falcons and sold the assembled sets for about 2.5 times the box price: does that sound right?

Some rare Lego sets can really appreciate over the years. They made a Statue of Liberty set around 15 years ago that retailed for $199. There's one on ebay right now for $7,500.

I'm about as capitalist as you can get, and scorn the wealth redistribution types... but for some reason LEGO prices infuriate me.  Probably because I had them as a kid, but couldn't afford the things for my own kids.

Sure they look nice, but you'll need to break out the Elmer's if you want the blocks to stay stuck together and not immediately fall apart if you try to pick it up.
