Notre Dame would never do it. Getting destroyed at least 6 times a year isn't good for their mystique as a top tier program.

ESPN doesn't have the kind of money it takes to buy Notre Dame.

receiver DaVaris Daniels, defensive back KeiVarae Russell, defensive lineman Ishaq Williams and linebacker Kendall Moore.

today's fun fact: 3 out of 4 academic cheaters at Notre Dame have incredibly hilarious, made-up names.

2014-08-15 06:26:57 PM
So who will be their next coach?

2014-08-15 06:36:54 PM
Academic fraud's more of an ACC thing. I guess they'll fit right in.

What hurts their chances? Getting caught?

You're supposed to ignore it amirite?  Clearly not SEC material.

Notre Dame should've waited for the Big East break-off before making their move, now they're stuck with 3 ACC teams on their football schedule.

Excellent point, and isn't it five ACC teams?

SEC homers would say that if the Seahawks joined their conference.

"They ain't beating 'Bama, roll tide, but I reckon they might tie Vanderbilt. Imma predictin they go 1-9 in the SEC."

I'm pretty sure it's 3, and they had to cut Michigan.

Yes, and they're full ACC members for all the other sports except men's hockey.

Mentat: How many Waffle Houses does South Bend have?

Whoa, I just noticed they didn't have any.  I was going to snark about how in the not too distant past all the Indiana Waffle Houses were called "Waffle and Steak" because of a naming dispute, but they're only in Kokomo, greater Indy, and the highways towards Louisville and Cincy.

I'm not saying Notre Dame isn't a whore; I'm saying Notre Dame is a pricey whore. You know, "that's extra...that's extra, too...that's extra as well..."

What this story doesn't mention is that the allegations involve a female tutor who exchanged papers for sex.

That livens the story up a bit, and also creates some more questions.

I wish that were true but TV doesn't hand truckloads of money to Notre Dame and the NCAA doesn't treat Notre Dame extra special because no one cares.  They have a huge fan base...an annoyingly huge fan base.  And they are EVERYWHERE.

Why do we care whether or not these "amateur" players are academically skilled?

They should be paid to play and provided enough remedial classwork to achieve 8th grade level reading and math.

2014-08-16 04:16:17 AM
Sounds like to me they were trying to capture the sec spirit,  Then they got caught and acted like they gave a damn, See if they kept deneying it and paid for it to go away they would be sec material.

This.

Notre Dame is a washed-up program, getting by on past glories, and not much else.

original report said all 4 had been dismissed from the university. latest statement by university president now says they are just being held out of football activities (not suspended or dismissed, basically given a "time out").

looks like ND is well on their way to restoring their SEC credibility. they managed to do a complete 180 and start the whitewash in less than 24 hours.

No, it's ultimately five, but this year it's only four because if the Michigan game.

ND gets FSU, UNC, Louisville, and 'Cuse. Think the five-game agreement starts next year.

Good to see an honest effort at conference affiliation from the Domers, even if we're still playing Just The Tip, Big Least-style.

So that's -- what, three starters, including two key defensive guys.

I thought FSU -24 vs ND was a bit strong. Now maybe not so much. They may well lose to UNC and Louisville too.

They definitely suck, but inexplicably people do care. Every high-school dropout in the Northeast and the Rust Belt who's either Catholic or more than 1/86 Irish watches those clowns.

ND will be lucky to win two of the four against the ACC.

Hell, it's not a foregone conclusion they beat 'Cuse.

But glad to have'em, since it means more money for FSU, and certainly it's a competition upgrade to balance whatever flaming trash heap we get stuck playing out of the sorry-assed Coastal Division.

At Notre Dame, you can rape all you please and count on the program and administration burying it. But cheating? That there's a sin.

2014-08-16 03:02:32 PM
If schools like Maryland and Rutgers can join the Big Ten - actually, more like the Puny Fourteen -
why not Notre Dame in the SEC?  (Then they won't have to wait until the holidays to be creamed
by Alabama, Florida, or LSU.)
