There was always a Ginger v. Mary Ann thing going on with them.  I always liked Mary Ann and Bailey better.  More down to earth, and all that.

Plus, The helmet hair thing never did it for me.

Someone upstairs here mentioned Newsradio.

Maura Tierney was the prettiest thing to ever hit a sitcom, IMO

I'll wait for reviews to tell me how how close the DVD release is to the original.

And then I'll buy it and be disappointed because the reality of watching old sitcoms does not live up to my memory of them.

Oh grow up ffs. She's 65.

That isn't that great of a 65. My mother-in-law looks much better and she is in her 70s. Compare her to Jane Fonda who is 77.

It's not "tragic," either. She looks like a healthy woman in her 60s with the exception that she probably spent a lot of time in the sun without sunblock. Whatever. She looks normal. This Fark thing of bemoaning the tragic fate of people who have aged normally is childish. WelcometoFark.jpg.

CarnySaur: and I've heard it's why even a show like Cold Case will have a difficult time being released.

That I don't understand. I mean I get it for shows like wonder years or WKRP where no one would have even thought to secure the music rights for home viewing. But for a show like cold case it should be a no brainer that when you get the damn music rights you get them for broadcast and DVD and online streaming and everything else. Or you pick a different song. How hard is that? Hell I have been watching Raising Hope on Netflix and in the season 2 finale they used You Can't Always Get What you want by the Rolling Stone (played nearly the whole song) and they managed to keep the rights to that song even for netflix. If a low rated show on Fox can get the rights to one of the most famous songs by one of the biggest bands ever, then this kind of thing should no longer be a problem.

It could be worse, but I was hoping Shout Factory would be the best shot to release it as broadcast with no bullshiat. At least it's not "Here's season 1, we'll see what happens before planning to release each subsequent season."

They just announced that their release of The Wonder Years will have all but two of the original songs included.  So they are pretty good at getting rights.

Wonder Years is being released by Time-Life, not Shout. And by god, you're paying for that original music, since the set will be $250.

But, it's 96% complete, so you can't biatch too much.

WKRP is still a "wait and see" thing. If it's still too edited, there's no use buying it.

One of my favorite moments in the show was the ep in which the team thought that sleazy guy had a video of Jennifer naked and was going to show it in a pron theater. Of course, they had to go and "investigate".

Anyway...when they were all in there the cops busted the place. As they stormed through the door Johnny immediately stood up and threw everything out of his pockets. It was subtle and not the main focus of the shot but very noticeable. I was a little too young to get it first time I saw that ep...but as time went on and I saw it again on some repeat channel I understood immediately why my dad found it funny all those years ago.

Many years ago I managed to acquire the full series with the original music, some of the quality wasn't the greatest but better it be slightly fuzzy & make sense (Hot Blooded, Tiny Dancer, Dogs, etc) than quite clear & random elevator music. Growing up my kids all loved that show & watched it at least 6-8 times all the way through.  Each of them has come home with a story about one of their teachers doing a double take when they in class quoted or made reference to 'KRP in context to whatever was going on at the time.  I was quite proud.

YES!!!!! I remember that picture. I brought that in one day to senior English class and it created a giant ruckus, as you could imagine at an all-boys Jesuit school. The teacher grabbed it, and rather than confiscating it as teachers often did with such material, took a long look at it and announced, "Extra credit for good taste in reading material" and handed it back to me.

Ian Wolfe, who played Hirsch, has a hell of a filmography. Had I been on set, I think I would have been following him around begging for stories. The guy had a 7-decade career in show business. He worked with Clark Gable, Cary Grant, Hitchcock, Errol Flynn, Spencer Tracy, Brando, Marlene Dietrich and on and on. He was in one of my favorite noirs, "They Live by Night." He appeared in "The Lone Ranger," "The Twilight Zone," "Night Gallery," "Bonanza," "Gunsmoke," "Perry Mason," "Star Trek," "Soap," "Barney Miller," basically every show ever. What a career.

I have old captured VHS recordings of the entire series with the original music, but it's kinda crappy quality.  I'd totally buy the set if they could get at least the large majority of it with the original music.

Yep.  And while he was tolerable in News Radio, he was only worthwhile as a foil to Bill.  Anything he did that wasn't related to Bill's character was mostly a miss.

Although I did enjoy the pratfalls before the network told the show to stop them.

I think it's 80, 90 bucks for the set. Maybe 10 or 20 more if you order it directly from Shiut so you can get it 5 weeks early.

Roughly 25 bucks per season isn't too bad, especially if they get the music right.

I watched the first season of Barney Miller. It's a wonder they let it live. It's heavy on Broadway-actor angst and not much funny.

Barney Miller didn't hit its stride until Steve Landesberg joined the cast, then it was perfect for its time.

I wonder if they release that copy of the awful video release they show nowadays where they took out all the music and replaced it with generic elevator music, that made the jokes make no sense? It was truly sad and ruined the show. The music is a character in of itself to ground it, and when they took it away, they took much of the greatness of the show away.
