Instead, the OST shoehorns in two songs-Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell's Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and the Jackson 5's I Want You Back"-that were quite plainly tracks from Awesome Mix Vol. 2, which Quill unwraps toward the end of the film.

Not only is this narratively inconsistent with the film, but it disrupts the mix's aesthetic integrity.

The director disagrees.

But finding humor in old corny songs is getting played out. Kinda like the whole cast sing alongs that were popular in comedies last decade. What I'm saying is, corny songs for comedic effect is OVER.

Maybe because instead of glossing over that, it ( talking to each other) was also an important part of the song?

Question, as I'm not familiar with the source material, having stopped reading comic books decades ago.  Is there a mix-tape associated with Star-Lord in the comics?  Any indication of what songs are on it?

Also, looks like a 60 or 90 min tape.  Shouldn't there be more songs?

I take it you hate "My Sharona" too because the song is about a 25 year old guy hooking up with a 17 year old girl.

The Awesome Mix was something added to the backstory for the movie as a way to explain the use of the pop songs in the soundtrack and to add a little extra flavor to the character.

Thanks.  Are there other, Earth-centered references or the like in the comics which serve the same purpose (link to home/Mom)?

Here's a cut that has them discuss the motivations while the song itself plays.

Not really. Getting back to Earth really isn't a problem Quill has in the comics.

The wife and were out doing errands today and had this going in the car nonstop. We probably went through it 4 or 5 times before we got home, so I'm getting a kick, etc...

I didn't read the article, but can I presume that this person is someone whose opinion on music is completely irrelevant and easily dismissed?

Oh, and Marvel, if you want to make a lot of money, release a Dancing Groot app for smartphones. That way I can plug my phone into a dock, play the music, and Groot is on my screen dancing to the music, his movements matching the rhythm of the song. There, I just made you a million dollars.
