Yeah, I don't believe that for one second. The only problem is that it would be uber expensive from some "foodie" bistro that serves it with a rib essence reduction.

i sometimes wonder... what is sushi?

i want there to be fish.  i want that to be part of the definition.

but, i don't know what the definition is...

/ never had "good" sushi.  just sushi at those american/japanese sushi places.  would love to know what's some damn special about the ridiculously expensive sushi
// i still love it.  because i love raw fish... ginger and wasabi.  and, sometimes i even like the rice.

Who hasn't had bacon and rice before?  You are half way to sushi already.  This "bacon is way too popular so I'm going to poop in the pool" attitude has got to go.  Turns out the one thing bacon cannot improve is subby's attitude towards life.  May you die miserable and alone and without a pan to cook bacon in.

Sushi has nothing to do with raw fish... it just contains it often times.

Sushi literally translates to "vinegared rice" or somesuch... it doesn't need to contain fish to be sushi.

Sushi made with ramen noodles, unless they are rice noodles, is not sushi.

As an avid sushi eater myself, I have the following to say...

I've never had actual Japanese sushi.  There are only a handfulf of places I've gone to that actually have a Japanese Sushi chef.  Among the ones that do have one, the food is still very Americanized.  Here we have the staple "California Roll".  They obviously don't have that in Japan.  We also have a bunch of rolls that are much considered favorites, like rolls with mayonaise, or rolls with tobasco sauce.  Again, none of that is in Japan.

Not to say that they are bad, by any means.  They just aren't exactly authentic.

So, keeping that in mind, I fail to see how adding bacon would be any different.  It's just another American ingredient.  And it may actually be pretty good.  Depending on what is with it.  Just bacon on a slab of rice seems rather silly to me.

Actually, in Japan, mayonaise is a huge thing.

Tuna mayo, kani(crab) mayo, ebi(shrimp) mayo and a few others like grilled salmon do in fact feature mayonnaise.

But the traditional sushi is, yes, mayo free. And that's because it's all about the vinegar, rice, and fish. Sometimes it's a sin to even put soy sauce on it.

Yeah, maybe I should have specified "traditional".  For all I know, they may actually serve California Rolls in Japan now, simply because it's a thing - and they are pretty good, after all.
It's not like this is the 14th century where cullinary ideas were so extremely localized.

I read the novel Shogun a while ago.  Great book, for the record.
I know it's not exactly historical, but it did point out some very big ideas about how the Japanese treat their food.  Considering they are an island, it's not like they had tons of space for livestock like we have.  It's one of the reasons that fish and rice became their primary dish.

Ya.
The vinegar part is regional. Most old interpretations were simply, "with rice".
But yer pop media has pretty much corrupted it to something fishy.
"sashimi" is used to represent the fish now, but used to include specific presentations.

Think "chow mein"
