"there is no religious requirement that prohibits you from removing the colander for the purpose of taking the photo to appear on your driver's license."

Okay, the guy is an unabashed attention whore and all but I still find it amusing that some slob over at ICBC had to spend part of their day typing that up.

If you insist on a helmet for your license photo, police should have the right to hit you on the head hard enough to hurt you if you aren't wearing one, but not hard enough to hurt you if you are. That will help weed out the serious religious nutcases believers from the attention whores. The serious ones will always have it on.

I'm of two minds.
On the one hand, I'm kind of glad that there are people willing to fight over obscure, stupid little things - it keeps the assholes honest.
But I'm damned if I could be arsed to do that with my life. Better him than me, for sure.

For a moment I was irritated to learn that the US had permitted this nonsense, but then I figured the government's reaction was probably along the lines of "hey, if you want to look like an ass on an official document, go right ahead."

The question is, why spend so much effort for obscure stupid little things when there are important, big things that need this kind of energy and legal power? Why not fight for THOSE with the same zeal and vigor?

I mean, this is funny and all that...but it's not ever going to be cited in defense of, say, kids being allowed to wear hijabs at school or turbans if they are cops.

Observant Sikhs and Jews wear their head covering every time they leave the house.  If this guys wears the strainer on his head daily, and particularly whenever he's driving, then yes.

If not, then false equivalency is false.

Well, to be fair, his religion makes about as much sense as any other, why not let him wear the strainer on his head? Pope wears a huge hat, what is the difference? There isn't any. It's all a matter of how you view it. If you look at the catholic church, their costumes are rather ridiculous, so why not let this guy wear what he wants? Oh, he made it all up, because it's just silly? You don't say. How is that different from all the other Gods and demigods we have made up over the centuries?

Unless his interpretation is that it's only required for license photos.  Especially if he's really observant of it.

Actually yes it does and even if that weren't the case FSM wasn't created to make fun of other religions, but to make fun of the dolts who decided it was necessary to include their religion in a science classroom. It has since been exploited for other agendas, but those are not why it exists.

You'd think somebody who blows goats for beer money would have thicker skin. Talk about disrespectful. Pfft.

Most Americans wouldn't know it but a lot of Canada had its panties in a bunch in the 80s over Sikh Mounties wearing Turbans rather than the traditional dress hat. It was a conservative lobby's attempts at undermining PET's multiculturalism I'd suspect but we got over it.. except for Quebec which is still a little french-nazi enclave except for Montreal.

Rights are only real if they apply equally to all citizens, so I would tip my colander to this disturber of the shiat were I wearing one.

Pastafarianism is supposed to make life better, by amusing us and pointing out the ridiculousness of religionists who want to coopt science education and government. It is not intended to make bureaucrats miserable when they're just trying to do their boring but necessary jobs. Cut this crap out, assholes.
