As part of the U.S. Crisis Support Package for Ukraine announced by the White House in April, the State Department awarded a $435,000 contract to B.K. Engineering System in Kyiv

$435,000?   That would have solved the Mexican/US border issue.

Or the billions Obama proposed by was turned down?   Yeah.  It's his fault.

Kiev gotta be kidding me.

Because there's a super strong analogy between the 3.1 mile spit of land linking Crimea, an area forcibly removed and under hostile occupation, with the Ukraine and the peaceful 1933-mile US-Mexico border.

/Beware the brown, school-age spentsnaz coming over from Mexico.

When illegal immigrants annex Texas and put 40,000 heavily armed troops on the remainder of our border with Mexico, I'll consider getting outraged by this.

/tag, presumably, is for subby
//I won't be outraged if they withdraw the troops and agree to keep the Texans

So it would cost 271 million and change.

For a concertina wire fence?  Sure.  And it would cost 9 dollars for the cutters and leather gloves and long-sleeve shirt to cut it and drag it out of the way.  Money well-spent.

I'll bet it's one o' them fences that move in the middle of the night when your neighbor is trying to steal your well.

Just getting this out there, but what exactly is a freaking fence going to do to deter illegal immigrants from entering the country? I really can't see them crossing deserts on foot and fording rivers with whatever meager possessions they carry on their heads just to reach a fence and say "Oh drat, now I have to go back to ______!"

So we're paying for a fence in which there's an actual danger on the other side of the border? Makes sense to me.

/no, brown people taking yer jerbs isn't a danger
//mostly because if they couldn't cross, the jerbs would cross over to find them
///remember Perot and his "giant sucking sound"? he was right

No, he wasn't.  From where I'm sitting NAFTA was a great deal.  Why should I subsidize inefficient industries with my paycheck?  I don't care if every garment industry worker in the South loses their job.  Those jobs were in New England before they were in the South.  Losing 15-20% of my purchasing power as a result of protectionism and inefficient domestic industry is stupid.

Yeah, but anybody crossing the border in Hudspeth county would immediately die of boredom. So we have that going for us.

You want to stop that last Ill Eagle?  Fine.  It's going to take 2000 miles of this:

Here's your tax bill.  And STFU about being Taxed Enough Already.  You aren't taxed anywhere near enough to build the Great Wall of Texas.

If Texas wants it, let Texas build it.

I know, border control is a federal function.  But I can think of few bigger wastes of money than building and maintaining a border wall.

The fence says which side is Russia, and which side is Ukraine with warning notices about the legal and possibly life threatening consequences of being on the wrong side of the fence.

I very much doubt the intention is to stop everyone crossing, particularly high determined people. But it would stop casual crossing and it would assert sovereignty over the land.

And the people who lived all their lives without any border, going this way and that way freely, will finally get into their stupid heads that it's not how it's gonna work anymore.

After a couple of arrests and convictions, of course.

I was referring mainly to the Republicans who seem to think a fence will solve everything with Central American illegals.

Manufacturing went UP in the U.S. after NAFTA. Manufacturing employment went down, but that's because of automation more than anything else. Sorry, unskilled people, you have been replaced by a robot.
