I blame all these craft brewers convincing the world that $5/bottle is an acceptable price. The rest of them following suit makes an average rate of consumption an expensive pastime.

I'd rather pay $5 for a good bottle than $.50 for pisswater in a can.

Very true.  My point is that I'd rather drink fewer beers that are high quality rather than more beer that is lower quality.

Just finished reading this book

Americans drank a *lot* back when the country was founded.

It's OK, you guys can relax. They forgot to include me and my buddies Jake & Elo. That'll bring us up to at least 950 cans of beer per capita.

Americans of all ages.

France AVERAGES a glass of wine per day per person.  It says per person not per adult.  If you take out very small children and then maybe very old where maybe for health reasons they can't drink, add in there must be at least some small portion of the population that doesn't drink at all and you get a very reasonable AVERAGE 2 glasses of wine a day.  It's hard to average that amount I would think.  I know they supposedly drink it at basically every meal but I figured that meant 'most' meals.

I don't know.  I believe the number but that's a big number.

I have to apologize her efor my roomate she quit drinking in March and her lack of consumption is bringing the numbers way down and me being respectful of her hasnt drank much damnit!

Two glasses of wine a day, on average, is a big number? Guess we disagree on what is considered a lot of alcohol.

One a day at dinner, maybe a second half the time and you're already almost there. The last 180 we attribute to parties when people tend to have a few drinks. Let us say that during 15 parties a year, 5 glasses of wine were drunk and we have 105 glasses left. Sometimes visitors come over, let us say that during 30 such occurences 2 glasses each were drunk and we have 45 miscellaneous glasses of wine left to spread over the whole year.

Also: those are official standard measurements which people don't really follow at home. It is very easy to fit 1.5 servings in a single wine glass.

Try Roche brand k-cut and some liquor.

It will definitely fark you up quicker.

It doesn't help that many (most?) Americans consider a couple of nights of having a good time over cocktails a serious character flaw, and the person doing it is in need of an intervention and twelve-step program.

Hell, a typical weekend out in the UK would be grounds for inpatient rehab in the US.

Quantity can be deceiving.

I inject Everclear into the whites of my eyes.

So I like to think while I don't consume a lot of alcohol, I do consume it effectively.

/do not inject Everclear anywhere except in a conversation

That big drop in consumption in the early to mid '80s? That's when they made it illegal for 18- to 20-year-olds to legally drink. Thanks, Reagan!

DRUNKENNESS is a virtue. Alcoholism is not. It's like shuffleboard: don't cross that line.
