I think Snowden meant well at first, and in his mind he might still have good intentions, but this has gotten out of control and he looks more and more like a turd every time I hear about him.

Whatever.  It's been, what, a year now?  Considering what he got, the "revelations" have been pretty milquetoast despite Greenwald's hyperbole on the issue.   At this point it just looks like a publicity campaign.

2014-08-14 12:08:56 PM
I really wouldn't be surprised if the Snowden had something positively radioactive on the US government. Something so foul, with visible congress critter prints, that they'd drone strike him if he tried to blab. They sure want him bad enough for it to be plausible.

It's your patriotic duty to keep focusing on Snowden and Greenwald. Do not worry your pretty heads with the NSA.

Snowden doesn't write or print the articles.  He handed the information over to two news papers and they assimilate the information and write the article.  He's probably read what has already been released and is aware of what still hasn't been covered yet so he knows there more to come.

You knew all this though yet still thought your tautologicial post added something to the discussion.

The real problem with the Snowden information is that it makes the black helicopter crazies bob to the surface like rats.

Except if he knew this super secret biggest of the big bombshells was waiting to drop, wouldn't he have pointed the newspapers to it already?

Meanwhile he gets to stay in a country with a recognized desire to humiliate the US while at the same time annexing other countries and oppressing it's own citizenry and bombarding them with state controlled media.

He doesn't have control of the files. From the Wired article linked to by TFA:

The documents themselves, however, are out of his control. Snowden no longer has access to them; he says he didn't bring them with him to Russia. Copies are now in the hands of three groups: First Look Media, set up by journalist Glenn Greenwald and American documentary filmmaker Laura Poitras, the two original recipients of the documents; The Guardian newspaper, which also received copies before the British government pressured it into transferring physical custody (but not ownership) to The New York Times; and Barton Gellman, a writer for The Washington Post. It's highly unlikely that the current custodians will ever return the documents to the NSA.

He's not saying that there is a bombshell, if you read that whole article, but that the government is *ACTING* like there is a bombshell that is hidden in there, which should make people wonder about what the NSA is doing that hasn't been revealed yet.  In other words, the government doesn't know what was taken, so it's acting like something really embarrassing was taken but hasn't yet been revealed.

Snowden is a whistleblower but that doesn't automatically exonerate him for the crimes he committed to do that whistleblowing.

What was revealed was at least the government breaking the spirit of its laws and in many cases the letter as well. I am of the opinion people should know when this is happening and take corrective action from it.

Maybe those in power are bending the rules to keep us safer. More likely they are bending the rules to move money in the directions that they like. Of course, they hope it looks like they are doing that to keep us safer.

The world could be so bad that the only way to maintain peace and order is through nasty dealings that prevent nastier things. Is this why people are up in arms against Snowden? I always sensed that the anger against him as the anger of embarrassing our nation and exposing it as not quite the lawful place we like to imagine. What am I missing?

It seems we have the rule of law up until the point where it gets too inconvenient. Then you have Justices scouring dictionaries to find meanings for popularly understood words that fit their contortionist arguments. It's as if all of our grand traditions of government are comforting clothing hiding the kabuki dance of money.

Then he is a fool for not already releasing it.

And i doubt we would send drones into russia.

either wait for the government to fark up and add fuel to the fire or wait till news goes into a lull and drop something else (but as has been stated, he doesn't have custody of it anymore)

Smackledorfer: Also if his argument is that the people deserve to know this shiat then who the fark does he think he is to keep it secret for longer?

if you dump it all at once, you'll have information overload and most of it will get lost in the shuffle. If you drop it piecemeal over a long period of time, you have more chance of having it being digested properly by the people and media. Is it a shiatty thing to do? On the face, sure, but if he dumped it all at once, we'd forget all about the revelations after 2 weeks. This prolongs the revelations from going stale and is a proverbial knife-twisting in the NSA

Neither of those reasons make much sense to me. Why would he do that? The point isn't to attack the government, it is to improve it by letting the people know what is going on.  If Snowden or any of the people holding this information have their primary goal be sticking it to the man then they need to grow the fark up.  You could be right and that is their juvenile goal along with media-whoring of course.

somedude210: if he dumped it all at once, we'd forget all about the revelations after 2 weeks.

I disagree, and would even say that a giant pile of revelations is exactly what we need to be motivated to vote for change.  Trickles of information leave Americans accepting each new invasion of privacy and overreach or shrugging them off. We act when terrible shiat happens, we sit back down in front of the tv when little stuff does.
