(KTAR Phoenix)   It's August so it's time for the annual "Fantasy Football will cost businesses 'X-amount of dollars this year'" article. For the 2014 season, the amount is **spins wheel** $13.4 billion   (ktar.com) divider line 28

They're not counting teh gheys and others like me who don't give a good god damn about football, who will be picking up the slack. Bad accounting on their part.

Because if I wasn't looking up fantasy info I'd be doing real work, right.  It just replaces other time-wastey stuff

They must have a calender on their wall telling them when it's time for certain rehashed fluff articles. "Hey guys, it's Fantasy Football Kills Productivity day! Four hour lunch!"

Again?

Most of the cost is for "journalists" writing about the cost.

The friends I have that play FF do spend an ungodly amount of time studying sh*t for it.  But, whatever floats your boat.  They don't work for me.

They're not journalists. They're know-it-all talk radio hosts.

Anyone who has ever worked in IT will never believe any of these numbers anyway.  Office workers spend at least 20% of their day dicking around doing things they "aren't supposed to", with that number increasing as the person's title gets nicer.

I've seriously had LOB managers who spend 75% of their day 5 days of week browsing forums and websites unrelated to work try to get me to "stop someone from using the internet!" who spends ~20% of their time but gets paid far less.

I assume it's like any other form of projection.

This is what smart phones are for. IT thinks you spend 100% of your internet usage on work stuff, meanwhile you are having a wank in the janitor's closet looking at pornhub on your phone

Be very careful about whom you accuse of wasting time.

I don't think any IT person has ever thought that about anyone ever.

Though I encourage people who are going to look at porn at work to PLEASE use their personal cell phone to do so so when we get sued for sexual harassment it isn't our fault, and so we don't get a bunch of viruses.

/mostly kidding
//ok, I did have to tell a "porn addict" we had once to do that
///he did eventually get fired for masturbating on the job

I think it would be interesting (in a "as long as someone else did the work" way) to have someone tally these totals for everything that seems to magically steal money away from businesses.  It would probably be more than the GDP of the entire damn country...

A guy in our league just changed his team name to "Michael Sam's Club".

Football is the worst fantasy sport.  There are so few games and so many injuries.   Then when you get to the playoffs,  your best players are sometimes rested if their team has already secured playoff standing.     Rotisserie  leagues in baseball, hockey, and baseball are more enjoyable for strategy and building stats for a whole season.
