Lol. Prepare for butthurt.

Yup, that's really the problem with Obama. He leaves the White House every once in a while.

2014-08-13 08:20:30 PM
Did he really think that Obama doesn't at least get a security briefing every day he's away from DC? Presidents don't take vacations.

Bush is dancing with a member of the family. Nothing wrong with that.

The French didn't call him out for taking too many vacations, Subby. Just this particular "holiday period" the French admittedly take as well.

That said, why do you even consider the opinion of the French? Helps you stiffen up your weak spine?

The French shouldn't criticize anyone about the time off one takes, no lest the president of the US.

/ Paris is great when the parisians go on holiday, restaurants are a little more sparse but most things are still open and you don't have the crowds

It was pretty funny. "Uhh, uhh, but, see, Bush's vacation days were at his ranch, so that doesn't count!" Jesus Christ, no wonder everyone is amazed when I tell them I'm a former two-time Bush supporter. I guess changing your mind in the face of evidence and refusing to be intellectually dishonest is a farking superpower these days.

This chart says the minimum number of days the French government requires employers to let their employees take off a year is 30.  So at a minimum, 30 x 6 = 180.  The average French person is required to take off about 30% or so more time than Obama has taken

Dammit people, stop dying.

Wait. The French think Obama takes too much time off in August? So he's vacationing more than 100% of the time?

fusillade762: 'When people are dying, you must come back from vacation'

...Ronald Reagan's reaction to Russia's shootdown of a Korean passenger jet [with 23 American citizens abord] in 1983.
...
Only after CBS shows President Reagan on horseback at his ranch as the crisis unfolds does he reluctantly return to Washington.

CBS REPORTER DEBORAH POTTER: At the time, officials said, there were no plans for the president to cut short his vacation, and he went for his regular horseback ride on his mountaintop ranch. Aides said that anything he could do at the White House he could do there.

Potter went on to report that Reagan returned to D.C. because "officials here began to worry that, given the circumstances, it wouldn't have looked right for the president to stay on his ranch."

Why has Fartbongo HUSSEIN Obummer not returned to the white house in this crisis?!

Oh, right, in 1983 they likely didn't even have computers/cell phones in most government offices or on personnel yet. Returning to the white house would be symbolic at best. More likely a waste of time and energy compared to just getting on a farking cell phone with aides and advisors in a conference call and making decisions that way.

Why do people insist on thinking that presidents can only make decisions from the actual oval office? Shiat, I'm just another IT guy, and even I can work productively from outside the office as long as there's Wi-Fi.

The idea that a modern day president is ever on "vacation" is laughable.

Every one of them look like they transition from human to dust throughout an 8 year term.

I'd be happy if they just locked Presidents in the White House for the entire term. Every time they go out in public they fark up traffic and everything else with all the Secret Service bullshiat that goes on. The Obamessiah went to the golf course yesterday and the SS was frisking all the golfers there. They had NO legal authority to do that, i.e., needing probable cause, but fark it, the Imperial Presidency MUST be revered!

Translation: "Why won't they loosen up security so one of my wingnut buddies can take a crack at Obama?!"

There's security, then there's overkill. The Secret Service acts like the entire seething mass of the unwashed are just waiting for a chance to pounce on a president. The only realistic threat to a president is a lone gunman, knowing IN ADVANCE where a president is going to be, taking a shot at him. That threat can be easily dealt with by using a few bodyguards, keeping the crowd back, making sure there are no obvious places for a sniper to take a shot, etc. NOT by putting the entire place on lockdown. The Secret Service watches too many spy/thriller movies. If some well funded group wanted to bag a president, they could do it. Wire guided missiles, kamikaze aircraft, etc. can do the job nicely.  The survival of the country does not depend on the survival of a single person. I'm really getting fed up with the trappings of The Imperial Presidency.
