I really think it was "learn more about Planned Parenthood" that bothered her.

I really don't get the problem with the dancing bean.

Where's Anton LaVey when you need him?

To be fair, I can't keep straight all those white, mayonnaise-y religions straight, either. Episcopalians, Lutherans, Presbyterians, Methodists, Mormons -- they all look and sound the same to me.

I have his corpse standing in the corner of my living room.

And finally doing something useful.

"It may be protected by the First Amendment, but that doesn't mean we can't condemn it in the strongest terms possible for the moral outrage which it is."

This must be her 'broken clock' moment, because she's actually right.

On that point at least.

"Generals gathered in their masses
just like witches at black masses."

Most witches I know don't believe in black masses though the point about generals is valid.

Yeah, and also put forth a moratorium on new monuments at the state capital until a study is done reviewing the constitutionality of allowing religious based monuments, but letting the ten commandments stay until study is completed... which they haven't funded or chartered yet.

Also made it so no national guard base could authorize any marriage benefit paperwork to stick it to the gays...

Well, I can't the difference between Methodists and baptists. Except there tend to be books at the Methodists rummage sales.

LOL the golden calf ten commandments they put on the statehouse lawn was inscribed with Teabonics

'A Ten Commandments monument is up on the grounds of the state Capitol, but it didn't pass spell check.

"Remember the Sabbeth day, to keep it holy," reads one.

"Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidseruent," reads the last one.'

And Mary Fallin continues to be a terrible governor and an awful human being.

However, I'll be surprise if this Black Mass event is allowed to occur. Someone will find some loophole that will allow the city or state to cancel it. Or the organizers will just receive enough death threats to deter them.

If it does happen the resulting shiatstorm will be amazing (which is probably the intent).

Actually it's supposed to be Catholics that acknowledge each other at the liquor store.  Methodists don't even use real wine for communion.

As a kid my parents always took us to a baptist church (preferably southern baptist).  And my grandfather was a Methodist preacher/minister and we'd always have to attend service at his church when visiting for the weekend.  That said, if there is a significant difference between the two denominations I couldn't tell you.

Frankly most black masses are boring anyway. There's never any real sex, it's always simulated, the blasphemy is thoroughly pedestrian, the only part that's fun for me anymore is when the guy shouts "Now kiss the goat!" because it reminds me of that recording by Coven that got sampled for that industrial song by whoever twenty years ago.

I'd rather be at a Boyd Rice concert.

today she came out in support for a study to research using cannabis oil for certain conditions (notably severe seizures where the oil has shown to greatly reduce the number of seizures) Keep in mind her (D) opponent in the elections in November proposed this months ago.  So I guess she is just trying to look cool to the young hip voters.

/wonder if the study will be called off after the election.

Even as a Governor, she has a right to an opinion, including when she's being interviewed. We don't turn people into robots when they're in office and then allow them to have opinions and feelings afterwards.

It's when they try and pass laws, organize the police to block a group, or try and bar them from the city/county/state/etc. that it becomes a problem. To me, this is borderline because, like I said, she is still a person with beliefs and ideals, but this "we have to comdemn" language sounds a lot like asking the people she governs over to act in her interests. If it had been her speaking at her church, then it would just be funny be cause she can't keep her Satanists straight.

I in no way support this woman, it's just that I also see that lately people can't complain about a fart without it being a slur against the flatulent. We ask for give and take from our elected officials, we need to occasionally offer it back to them. Besides, we have plenty more to pile on some of these people over.

You should see that here in Utah. They are spinning in every direction possible to convince the world(and themselves) that Colorado is going to be smited(smote? smoten? smeeted? smitten?) for legalizing pot. We aren't going to lose a penny in tourist dollars, everyone is still going to ski in Utah because the snow is perfect(it is), and people would NEVER change their skiing destination just because Colorado not only has less restrictive drinking laws, but now you can smoke pot...

Anyway, at the same time, these folks are huge on family and community, and this cannabis oil thing broke on the news around the beginning of the year. The politicians went from "never, ever" to "well, maybe" and on to "we should probably do this" in about 2 months. They are just trying to figure out how to be against pot, yet for a beneficial byproduct at the same time, and they can't do it...

Why?

Because they've spent decades pounding it deep into everyone's heads(And they aren't alone in this) that marijuana has ZERO benefit to society. As a result, they've ignored 100% of the data, and instead of being anti-drug, but pro-cannabis, hemp and marijuana benefits(which they could do), they suddenly have to admit that people have been right forever, but can't use any of the evidence they previously ignored.

My mother was a Methodist and my father was a Baptist. I can't tell the difference either. Maybe it's because I never attend the rummage sales of either group.

That's easy. Methodists are dull. Baptists are like cats. They raise a lot of hell but you can't catch 'em at it ..

Well, the Southern Baptists have a lot of variation from church to church because they're not really centrally controlled like the Methodists are, more or less. Southern Baptists are what's left after all of the anti-slavery baptists splitting off around the Civil War, while Methodists were at the forefront of the abolition movement. Southern Baptists also embraced white supremacy during the 1960s - Martin Luther King, Jr. was a preacher in the National Baptist Convention, the black Baptist church, before splitting with the president of the convention over civil rights tactics. The United Methodist Church, at least, is taking tentative steps towards more tolerance of homosexuality, although both religions at this point ban participation in leadership roles by gays and ban ministers from conducting gay marriage ceremonies. Gays are welcome in UMC congregations, though.

As far as baptists vs. methodists in general, my understanding is that baptists don't believe in infant baptism, while methodists do. Baptists are about as independent as they can be, in that churches don't really have a higher authority to answer to, while most methodist churches belong to some sort of top-down hierarchy, which reflects the church's Anglican roots. The Anglican origins of Methodism are also visible in the way that services are conducted, and John Wesley, the first Methodist, made a big deal about singing a whole lot of hymns.

In other words, although they mostly believe the same things (except for the baptism thing) Baptist churches are very much in the "gathered" model, where each church makes up its own mind and decides who they want to associate with and what they want to preach. Methodists are more hierarchical, where there's a central authority and a top-down approach to how the church is run.

All she has to say is "This is how I feel personally about putting baby ducks through the sausage maker."  and it's all good.
