Nothing wrong with a gas tax.

It will, however, hurt those who DO own cars.  ("Shall we walk or take a kangaroo?")
Maybe next he'll tax airline fuel - "I....hate...Qantas."

The worst thing is that this is possibly not the stupidest thing put forward by a member of our government.

Australia is a very big city urban country.  The five biggest cities have over half the country's population.  I tried counting for US cities and got to 10 metro areas and just crossed the 1/3 population mark and decided to quit.

Refrigerator tax and we are gonna hit the poors.

Good job the poors (think: Meekatharra instead of Perth) don't buy things that are trucked in, what with Meekatharra being inland in the middle of nowhere and having an average wage of AU$46,160 and Perth having one of AU$72,800.

For example.

Why don't they just tax the earnings like sensible people, oh yeah, Tony Abbott and his Liberal (note: Australia uses that word like the rest of the world, it means right-of-center but not quite Tea Party crazy) Party and his high ideas about how he knows more about climate change than people that study that sh*t.

Enjoy your Barrier Reef while you can, Tony. Maybe you can prove King Canute wrong and turn back the tides too, with your doubts at the science.
