James!: Street harassers turning violent is why most women travel around with some kind of weapon after dark.
undernova: This just in: attitudes in the Big City may not be the same as in your hometown. Sticking your nose in someone else's business may not elicit the "aw shucks, mister, we're AWFUL sorry" you're expecting.
QuesoDelicioso: Jeez, the headline made it sound like he got shot or stabbed or something. Nope, just said the wrong thing to the wrong guy and got KO'd for his trouble.
factoryconnection: I clicked through the Jezebel re-post to the NBC Philly link. Surprisingly, Jez seems to have reflected the original story well. White-knighting or not, what a bunch of textbook-definition scrubs to be whoopin' and hollerin' at passing women from your buddy's car?
Foxxinnia: Is catcalling like a common thing still? I've only seen it happen once in my life.
Theaetetus: But it's just compliments! Women shouldn't have a problem with it! How else are men supposed to hit on women?Poor guy. Hopefully they catch the bastards.
Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: Foxxinnia: Is catcalling like a common thing still? I've only seen it happen once in my life.In urban shiatholes it's still very common.
H31N0US: What a dumbass.
WilderKWight: Kudos to the guy, but once again the Jezebel comments turn into a cesspool of hatred and angst.
arcas: I expected Jezebel to have their underwear in a bunch over the man being a chauvinist pig for having the assuming that the women needed defending...
DubtodaIll: Don't speak up if you can't take a punch. The nail that sticks out is the first to get the hammer.
Fafai: Surprise surprise, Jezebel's commentary sticks to the men are terrible narrative without acknowledging this guy's efforts to stop the harassment. That's all business-only--"defending a group of women ... according to police" is what they have to say about that particular man. Not so much as an 'at least there's one good guy out there.'Maybe they resent his sexist chivalry since he was acting as though a woman needed a man's help.
umad: Foxxinnia: Is catcalling like a common thing still? I've only seen it happen once in my life.It happens./about as often as women getting upset about somebody holding the door open for them
