That isn't surprising. The store that wasn't looted was protected by the owners who were ostensibly armed.

An armed society is a polite society. The non-criminal class can go into a gun shop and arm themselves, the criminals have to steal or otherwise acquire their guns illegally which can take much longer.

Lots of people are afraid.

Fear, of course, being the absolute undisputed #1 catalyst of gun sales.

does Misery allow open carry? It would be awesome if most purchases were by minorities who then decided open carry would convince the cops to stop shooting them in the back of the head.

It would take me slightly longer to buy an illegal gun than it would take me to hit an ATM to get the cash for the gun.

Yet I won't go to prison for years when I buy a gun from the gunshop. If you want to be a criminal, actually a felon who deals in illegal firearms, your life expectancy dramatically shortened.

Enjoy your 'illegal gun'.

/the gun is not illegal your acquisition of it would be.
// you probably couldn't acquire a firearm illegally in your example, if you're not disqualified (see the form 4473) then you can legally buy a firearm from a private party, even if that private party is a convicted felon.
/// if you are disqualified you shouldn't buy any firearm

2. RON PAULERS/libertarian-liters blowing this week's paychecks on guns and CCL licenses, then claiming that they'll help defend St. Charles county if the riots spread

3.  A few people asking for calm and rational treatment of the entire situation (while also criticizing the rioters as idiots), who then get shouted down by the goons in items 1 and 2

The state of Missouri reserves unto itself all regulation of firearms except for the open carrying of firearms which may be restricted at the local level. Open carry is not restricted at the state level.

I personally feel open carrying of firearms unrelated to one's profession is unwise.

You realize too I'm sure that the NRA was supportive of the Gun Control Act of 1968 that keeps guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill as well.

The NRA involved in marksmanship training, gun safety programs - particularly the Eddie Eagle gun safety program for children that teaches them to STOP, don't touch and call an adult when they encounter a firearm, as well as lawful gun ownership.

I will point out for those of you not following things closely, that the police essentially abandoned the neighborhoods to the rioters on Sunday night. They quickly found themselves in over their heads and were ordered to stay in their cruisers. The policing was wholly ineffective.

It's not just that there were riots, but that the riots demonstrated how law enforcement could break down so utterly and completely.

Residents of the neighborhood where the shooting occurred have described the situation as initiated by a police officer, who confronted Brown as the teenager was walking down the street and then shot him as he was trying to surrender.

Same here.

I work near UMSL so my family is having a panic attack because of it, calling me to make sure I didn't get shot.

Hmm, even in a gun friendly state like Missouri, we don't have very many gun shops in St. Louis.

Mid America Arms is one of the three or four real gun stores we have inside of 270. So is Metro shooting supplies. If both of them have the same surge on the same day, that's more than just an anecdote.

Mid America Arms is right next to the break-ins and congregating they were doing in south county last night. Metro Shooting is pretty close to where the riots were.

No shiat. Like the American west of the 19th century was so farking polite. The Canadian government saw what was going on (because the "polite" shenanigans spilled over the border as the Cypress Hills Massacre) and said "Fark that" and created the Northwest Mounted Police. Consequently the stories of the Canadian west that followed are far more boring (and polite).

CCL licences? Do you have to get money from an ATM machine? Or can you use a pre-paid debit card by entering your PIN number?

No, the NRA became more politically active in the late 1970's under Harlon Carter. The NRA has traditionally supported 'gun control' in the sense that it supported reasonable regulation of firearms by laws that don't conflict with our Constitutionally enumerated rights to firearms. Truly they still are. The NRA doesn't oppose laws disqualifiying criminals and the mentally ill from owning guns. The NRA supports laws requiring the safe storage and requiring adults to keep firearms away from children. The NRA supports enforcement of existing gun laws, especially laws regarding gun transfers to felons and laws against straw purchases.

The NRA's political action group, the NRA Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) was established in 1975, long before Wayne LaPierre became Executive Vice President. This was the time when laws were negatively impacting lawful ownership and use of firearms. The NRA-ILA uses the Courts and legislative process to help insure we are afforded the freedoms guaranteed in our Constitution.

This is a consequence of the spreading of the myth that the police have no duty to protect the public.

Your property is not worth a person's life. If you experience a break-in, simply call the police and allow professional emergency responders to handle the situation.
