CSB: I used to do the hurdles my senior year in high school because at worst I'd get third place (got second once!), and team points were team points.

Other coach to mine: Uhh...isn't that your two miler?
*coach looks, shakes head and sighs*
"Yes..."

I never got to do the long and triple jumps because they always ran them during my two mile race :(

That being said, good on this guy.  Surprised he hasn't blown a knee out.

I turned 50 last year and was hoping the competition in the 50-55 age group at 5 and 10 k races would be easier. It isn't. It's still fun to beat 30-year-olds though. I beat a 19-year-old soccer player in a small 5k this spring. I practice running hills and the last hill on this course wiped him out. The look on his face when a grey beard passed him was priceless.

I ran a 5-miler last year (I'm 50 also) and my neighbor's 12-year-old kid beat me by 2 minutes.

/bet I could still kick his ass in street hockey though

I got beat in a 5K road race by a dog. It sucked. I could see the finish line ahead of me, but then I started hearing this jingling and weird clicking on the pavement behind me. It was a woman running with her dog, and they overtook me in the last 200 yards.

Thanks to the screwed up demographics in that place, I still managed to place third for men in my age group.

Or else there was a Soviet boycott.  (Think of the 1984 Olympics - on second thought, don't.)
