Science proves every human has a fixed number of heartbeats before they die.  Exercise increases your heart rate, therefore using up your heartbeats faster.  Therefore exercise makes you die younger.

Checkmate, fittards.

Kids? You've all but signed your death warrant with the exercise required to produce children.

If you're interested in what killed him, feel free to read up on it. There is more to it than you may want to believe, especially if you're fat and don't really believe staying even remotely fit will help you live a longer, happier life.  LINK

"our study population consisted of heart attack survivors and so the findings cannot be readily generalized to the entire population of heavy exercisers."

...and I stopped reading.  No controls, no validity to the claim.  Correlation is not equal to causation.  This article was a waste of precious digital space and time I will never get back.

Not 'science' subby, sensationalist reporting of correlative data within a study researching a similar but unrelated hypothesis.

From the actual study results published by the Mayo Clinic.

http://www.mayoclinicproceedings.org/article/S0025-6196%2814%290043 7-6 /abstract

Objective
To test whether greater exercise is associated with progressively lower mortality after a cardiac event.

Conclusion
Running or walking decreases CVD mortality risk progressively at most levels of exercise in patients after a cardiac event, but the benefit of exercise on CVD mortality and IHD deaths is attenuated at the highest levels of exercise (running: above 7.1 km/d or walking briskly: 10.7 km/d).

Completely untrue. You do have a limited number of cell divisions though.

I knew a woman who had a heart attack. Afterwards she decided to EXCERCISE!!! She spent 8 hours a day, everyday, at the gym. That lasted for ~6 months...until she had her second heart attack. I believe this is what the study is identifying. People who have a heart attack and go overboard. Most people who have a job, don't have time for dangerous amounts of exercise.

Not exactly. Exercise lowers your resting heart rate as a fit heart pumps more blood per stroke so can rest longer between beats.

I did the math on this once and if it's true that you have a limited number if beats you will gain several years worth of beats even when you include the elevated heartrate while exercising.

yeah, my 1st thought, after recovering from the effort used to read the headline, was "all that non-exercise sure sounds like a lot of exercise"

Name an activity or substance where "too much" won't kill you.
