Well, of course. Why do you think I drink in the first place?

FTFM.

Hasn't everyone known this since alcoholic beverages were discovered?   Heck, the ancient Romans had that whole In Vino Veritas saying.

And then you apologize, everyone pretends it didn't happen and those feelings don't actually exist, and the ridiculous facade that all relationships are founded on continues for yet another day.

It's actually not that you lack guts when sober. It's that you have the concept of consequences. You don't gain courage. You lose perspective.

Drunk man's words are a sober man's thoughts.

In vino, veritas.

I consider that "I was drunk" is not a valid excuse for anything.

There's no way I could've had sex with some of those women if I wasn't drunk. I wouldn't have been physically able to do it.

\ I was drunk
\\ valid excuse

I know.  That's why I'm very careful how much I drink.

It's no surprise that alcohol causes us to make bad decisions;

And yet here you are writing an entire article about it as if it were news

I don't often drink in company.  Usually because I'm driving.

Oh, FFS, we needed a study, a news story AND a green for the shiat everybody already knew? Hell, we all pretty much knew the science behind it, too. When you get drunk, you lose your inhibitions. When you lose your inhibitions, you tend to tell people what you're thinking with your filters all down for maintenance.

The next study is going to tell us all that the Sun is "very hot".

Hope THAT gets the greenlight, too.

Looking for the things you like about people while not harping on their every annoyance because you don't want to hurt them and they would do the same for you isn't a "ridiculous facade", it's how people keep from stabbing each other over a funny look or farting in public.

Hell, I had to write a letter last weekend asking an acquaintance to consider my wife and I when choosing parents to adopt her unborn baby. Before I even thought of what I might say I made sure I had more than a couple of shots of bourbon in me. I knew there was no way I could do something like that sober.
\it just might have worked too!
\\i hope!

That's one of the big pluses for living in a major city with good public transportation IMO - you can go down to a bar with people and not have to worry about a DD or having to get a cab home then another cab back the next day to pick up your car.

Of course, it shouldn't have to be something that mostly only exists in big cities, if our liquor license regulations didn't make it difficult for bars to open next to residential neighborhoods we could start to develop a bit of a pub culture and cut down on drunk driving a good bit.

When I drink alone, I prefer to be by myself.

The only thing I ever feel embarrassed about is when I get really drunk and talk about killing myself.  Yeah, it's true, there's a plan in place, but it's not something anyone needs to know about.

I've never felt bad about anything else I've said.

Funniest thing is when I broke a mirror because the ass in it wouldn't stop laughing at me.  Of course that was my reflection but at the time...god, I can be an asshole.  hehe.

This. And yet it appears that there are some judges who are taking impairment into account as a mitigating factor. They should be considering it as an aggravating factor.

Loss of ability to give informed consent is rape.

Somthing of a grey area there.  Good luck.

Only if you're female. Drunk males are still capable of consent. This is to resolve the legal dilemma of prosecuting both willing participants of a legal act as criminals. Now it's only one criminal, and the other is now a victim, even though their actions were identical.
