(Christian Science Monitor)   For some strange reason, people are just tiny bit suspicious about those 280 Russian trucks headed to Ukraine as a "Humanitarian relief convoy" and exactly what they are carrying   (csmonitor.com) divider line 44

Ukraine is already saying it may block the convoy from entering unless they can inspect it and control where it goes.

Yeah this is not going to end well

Dammit, now how are the relief missiles supposed to get through?

Damn right, where did they find 280 road worthy trucks in Russia.

Not that the Russians are particularly trustworthy, but according to your article: "A Russian Emergencies Ministry spokesman later told the BBC that the Russian lorries would not cross the border, and that it was up to the Red Cross to decide what to do with the aid. "

Well, if they are carrying Russian soldiers with grenades then it could be considered a dirty bomb.

That's a lot of Russian defectors. How will the West be able to care for them. The US can't even deal with short, childlike refugees according to Republican leaders.

They thought it was an "Inhumanitarian Relief Convoy." Oopsy.

The other problem is see is that as those food import restrictions begin to pinch (Russia cannot feed itself and brings in 40% of its food, in the Soviet days it's "breadbasket" ws , ironically enough, Ukraine) people are going to look at thhose hundreds of trucks filled with food and supplies for OTHER people and start going "WTF Putin?   We can't buy a loaf of bread but you are GIVING it to these guys?"

macross87: Russia is shipping the banned religious individuals to the Ukraine. This way real Russians are killed and Russia can invade to "protect Russians" there. As a plus, the religious individuals that Russia hates are killed by someone else's hands. A win-win for Russia.

The fresh Ebola-laced send off dinner is a nice touch. Just one of those exotic finds from last weeks Russian Ebola Relief Effort in Africa. They just seem addicted to collecting bodies and body parts. QVC Channel is ramping up a Russian show as soon as ISIS and funeral directors can sit down to nail down details.

Unlike coyotes making the travellers cross deserts without water at least the Russian provide transport.

Honestly, I don't think Russia is stupid enough to load them with military supplies or men, as it would easily be spotted at the border and essentially be considered a direct attack by Russian on Ukraine. What they might do if not closely monitored though is deliver supplies to only the separatist and not other needed civilians.

Probably just nice white covers for the humanitarian aid they sent to Afghanistan circa 1979

Does anyone else find the uniformity of those "relief trucks" a bit suspicious?    I'd bet that if you scraped away that nice fresh white paint you'd find Russian  Army markings.

Or try to send the supplies right in the line of fire. Then Russia would need to send in a 'small number of troops' to help protect their relief efforts.

No.  Not even the Russians would do something that evil.  Nobody would.

which is the nub of the problem actually.  Russia and Ukraine have  slight disagreement about where the Ukranian border begins.  Russia could apply for border crossing permission from representatives of the Donetsk People's Republic and then declare the Ukranians blocking them tobe invaders or bandits or some such

This is Ambassador Spock of Vulcan. By now, Federation United Nations sensors are tracking three Vulcan ships 280 Russian trucks crossing the Neutral Zone Ukrainian border. These ships carry the future of the Romulan and Vulcan Russian and Ukrainian people. Our long conflict is finally over.

Like they give a crap. They basically invaded Crimea, and nobody said boo. Russia's gonna do whatever cretinous thing pops into Putin's head. They're going to suffer for it with more and more sanctions, but don't put spectacularly stupid moves past them. Putin really is that stupid.

Nobody ever did. Some Brit proposed doing it to Indians who were fighting for the French, but there's no record that anyone ever followed up.

My money is on the convoy being legitimate, but intended to focus attention to one spot on the border, while a couple of armored divisions roll in at other crossings.

If there was a plan to sneak troops in with this convoy, I don't see Putin saying "rats, they found us out" and just calling the invasion off. Tactical surprise is nice, but with the forces they have there now, they don't need it.

Speaking of demo trucks, I was playing a round of C&C 2, and I managed to get 10 of those things in the enemy base before he ever got any defenses set up. I didn't order them to attack, I just placed them all around his buildings. When the guy noticed them he was pissed. It ment he couldn't build any defenses near his buildings, and he couldn't leave units in his base either, because they would attack the truck and make it explode, and they were already parked next to vital targets.

About 10 minutes after that, something is his base started shooting at the trucks (which I was just going to leave to see how long it took something to happen, or in case he started winning) and caused a chain reaction that took out most of his base.

God, those where some fun times.

Very nice. :)

I never played C&C games online as I hate the whole mentality behind it (rushing that is).  The few times I played an RTS game online with a friend (it was the LotR:Battle for Middle-Earth RTS games) I just did "30 min no rushing" as the title of the game.  Got some games going and it was fun.

Still play RA3 with my dad every Sunday (against AI)...wish there were some 'newer' maps that were decent/good.

Other option is that Putin turns the convoy around at the border and says Ukraine is blocking them, as a pretext for a humanitarian invasion.

1. Send humanitarian aid convoy.
2. Shell humanitarian aid convoy.
3. Blame Ukrainian forces.
4. Cue outrage (esp. in Russia).
5. Deploy Russian "peacekeepers".
