This. If these are the smarties I know, 17 can be accomplished in an instant.

Everyone needs a hobby and it costs him money to apply each time.

I came close to a record... clothespins on my face. I got to 98. The record at the time was 107.

The only record I have a chance of beating, is most times of masturbating to completion in one day.

Pun intended.

The Smarties one doesn't make any sense.  Do they perhaps mean 17 packs of smarties in a minute?  Because a pack of smarties is 15 and I nearly always at them an entire pack at once.

That Attention Whore will always be remembered by me for appearing on the Oprah Winfrey Show many years ago. It was a show on world records, and of course Furman (not his real name; it's probably something like Arthur Ferguson, or some such) was on it talking about his numerous world records, like pogoing in a swamp - not making that shiat up - and his belief system that helps to achieve his inane ideas for world records.

Anyway, as other guests are interviewed and featured, near the end of the show, a plate of the world's hottest chillies were introduced and Furman does something which surprises Oprah, as she sees Furman grab one or two of the chillies and eats it. She asks him how he can do this, and does he feel anything etc. He replies that it's all in his training, and his belief system - some Indian yogi fakir shaman bollocks - and he can train his mind and body to ignore the chillies. Ok, fair enough, thinks Oprah and returns back to the show and chats to the other guests and world records and stuff....meanwhile, the world record holding chillies do their thing on Furman and he becomes visibly agitated and in some discomfort. Oprah asks if he wants water or assistance, and Furman, still thinking he's awesome, says he's ok and it's nothing. Not for long as he then submits and he's escorted off the stage/ sitting area and out of the studio in visible pain and discomfort.

As the show continues a little bit, and comes to an end, Oprah updates Furman's condition and is revealed as having been taken to hospital for treatment.

I freakin wish I can find the clip on Youtube for y'all...because it was awesome to watch!

I am pretty sure the grapes thing was a plot point in an Encyclopedia Brown book.

Ah yes. Guinnessport. Records that exist for no other reason than to insert one's name into the Guinness Book. Feh. Call me when it's a record that draws significant, constant competition (e.g. fastest 100-meter dash), or when it's one you weren't even setting out to break in the first place (tallest human).

I guess it depends on what you call a push up. That record seems unlikely because gravity.

I assumed that was the case until I read this:
http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/records-6000/most-smarties-eaten -i n-1-minute-blindfolded/
"The most M&Ms eaten in one minute blindfolded is 17 and was achieved by Ashrita Furman (USA) at the Panorama Café in New York, New York, USA, on 17 March 2011.
Ashrita even used masking tape over his eyes under the blindfold to ensure he could see absolutely nothing during the attempt."

With this description, I'm not even sure what the challenge was.

/Smarties is the British word for M&Ms

smarties...

Imma smash that record 17 in a minute?  Try 17 in a nanosecond.  except the red ones, you eat those last.

I'm surprised there weren't more by Toxteth O'Grady, USA.

I mean, surely the world's record for stuffing marshmallows up one single nostril (604) and world's stickiest bogey are worth mentioning?

Six jelly doughnuts in six minutes?

One doughnut every 30 seconds?

That seems doable.

Your Smarties are called Rockets everywhere else.  You don't have our Smarties, which are basically chocolate M&Ms with better chocolate.

...90 clap pushups in 60 seconds?

...And someone is supposed to break this over lunch?

At the absolute peak of my Army pushup performance I was doing 75 in two minutes.  And while I certainly wasn't going for a world record, but it's no small feat to do that.  Let alone clap pushups.  let alone fifteen more.  Let alone in half the time.

I actually met him twice, both times by chance, both times he was breaking a record. I used to live in a town in Queens where he owns a healthfood store. There's a cafe across the street where he breaks many of his records. The cafe actually has the world record for the place where the most records have been broken.

The first time I met him was a when a friend and I passed it and she had to use the bathroom.  He was oiled down and in a speedo and had a tennis racket without the net and he was doing how quickly he could pass the racket through his body 3x. It was like 1 second or something.

The second time I met him, he was also in the cafe, but I was much more impressed with this record. I had come from a National Pickle Day event and eating so much salt left me parched. That's relevant to the story. So I was coming home, and I merely wanted some water but he was there. He was seeing how long he could balance a pool cue vertically on his fingertip. Even a pen can be torture to hold if you try holding your hands out with it. But he managed to do it for 4-something hours (I only saw the last 10 minutes) and he stopped only when he beat the record by 20 minutes.

So he remembered me from last time because I had spoken to him about records and causally told him I went to national pickle day. He asked if they had pickled eggs and I said no. He said that there's a record for the speed to eat 3 pickled eggs but wasn't sure if he was up to it because he's vegan.

I said, "I'll do it then."

He said, "Actually, No it's okay."

He has the record for it now.
