At least we won't have to sit through Mrs. Doubtfire 2 now.
But seriously, this sucks always liked him.

LessO2: nekom: Suicide too.  Seriously, talk about news coming out of left field.  I'll be nobody had him in their 2014 death pool.

First thought what I heard about it was OD.  I'm not sure whether I'm happy or sad that it's not OD.

CNN says ashyxiation. Damn.

Well.. That just blows.

I'm off to watch Aladdin now and weep for my childhood.

Goodnight you funny funny man.

2014-08-11 07:23:30 PM

StrandedInAZ: I loved his work. I even liked The Crazy Ones; I may have been the only one watching it, but I liked it.

you weren't. Say what you will about Buffy in that, but he was great in the series

recent pictures had him looking pretty strung out. It's sad, but not surprising. he had started using again.

I just watched the Richard Pryor roast and saw Dead Poets Society for the first time in the past couple weeks, so this news really has me sitting on my head.

2014-08-11 07:23:39 PM
This is all wrong, all life has shadowed and joy has fled from the world.

I even had Mork suspenders when I was 7, and even bold enough to wear them on occasion.

Loved the Fisher King.

2014-08-11 07:23:40 PM

AshCampbell: No one had anything like Mork Returns to Ork or even Nanu Nanu? I mean, this headline was OK, but feels a little forced and ham fisted.

Sounds like it fell out of an egg.

2014-08-11 07:23:46 PM
so sad.  just... nothing else to say.

2014-08-11 07:23:48 PM

user437: That's a classless as fark headline.

Bet it gets greenlit....

/ not a Robin Williams fan , but this sucks.

2014-08-11 07:23:50 PM
Only 63.

2014-08-11 07:23:51 PM

nekom: Well, might as well remember him right.  Best movie he was in?  I say it's a toss up between Awakenings and his voice acting as the genie in Aladdin.

Aladdin, he made that movie.

i actually submitted one like that.  i really had no expectations of anyone going with it.  oh well.

I met him, very briefly, when he was filming Patch Adams and stopped into our store to buy some Eldar. We ended up special-ordering him an out-of-print book from the original Traveller.

/By ordering, I mean my boss emailed Marc Miller and Marc photocopied his original Atlas of the Imperium and mailed it to Williams' office in LA.

Riots: Check
Porno stars getting beat like pinata:
Patch Adams dying; Check

Anyone got a heartwarming story to add?

2014-08-11 07:24:10 PM
I read somewhere that he used cocaine.

2014-08-11 07:24:11 PM

Cybernetic: ani23: RIP funny man. Depression blows

IIRC (and assuming the reports are correct), this is the same thing that happened to Richard Jeni (one of my favorite comedians). It's very sad.

I knew Richard personally - albeit not at all close. He was such a marvelous person and a genuine gentleman. When I heard he took himself out, I was dumbfounded - I think for like 4 days. Absolutely never saw that coming. Pity when lovely people can't go on.

2014-08-11 07:24:14 PM
RIP

/can't even begin to list the movies. . .
//young enough to remember Mork and Mindy reruns too

2014-08-11 07:24:15 PM

Wolsey: RIP Mr. Williams, you are forgiven for "Hook"

To hell with you loved that.

2014-08-11 07:24:25 PM
Goddamn.
Funny headline, sucky news.

2014-08-11 07:24:26 PM
Robin, like Michael Jackson, are among the few true celebrities that almost transcend living human beings and hence when they are snuffed out, it makes it that much harder to accept it.

2014-08-11 07:24:27 PM

Sid_6.7: This headline is not any better than the other one.

LessO2: nekom: Suicide too.  Seriously, talk about news coming out of left field.  I'll be nobody had him in their 2014 death pool.

First thought what I heard about it was OD.  I'm not sure whether I'm happy or sad that it's not OD.

I'm guessing he might have been back on the coke/booze. That, or had something imminently terminal and wanted to go out his own way, but that seems less likely.

To be fair, the mods have several headlines to choose for him, with plenty more coming in.
Sad, he was insanely funny.

/watched Birdcage recently
//had Shazbot tshirt in the 70's.

Fiction Fan: Well...guess I'll start it.

RIP Robin Quivers

You didn't have to. Seriously.

2014-08-11 07:24:28 PM
He was just up here at Hazelden for a refresher sobriety course. He must have been in a terrible way lately.

2014-08-11 07:24:30 PM
I remember being just a little kid and sneaking downstairs after my parents went to sleep so I could watch his HBO specials and getting busted because I was laughing so hard.

New York Morning Echo....

2014-08-11 07:24:31 PM
RIP to the funniest man alive... or...dead

2014-08-11 07:24:32 PM
I am fairly sure this just wrecked TMZ.

2014-08-11 07:24:43 PM
You gave me many smiles, Robin. RIP.

2014-08-11 07:24:46 PM
Well, that shocked the hell out of me.

2014-08-11 07:24:59 PM
Didn't he just go back into rehab not long ago? Not really surprised considering his history of substance abuse

2014-08-11 07:25:07 PM
Ill miss the guy :-(

Wow.  This is one of the most chilling death pronouncements I've ever heard.

2014-08-11 07:25:32 PM

Professor Farksworth: Why. Why do all the best minds in comedy have to be dead?

Ummm, Gallagher and Jeff Dunham are still alive.

He had been battling depression for some time...it can be a real *personal* hell that those around you may never *see*.  Never saw a film with him in it I DIDN'T like.  RIP and "Goodnight, Vietnam"

There is a little bit of Robin Williams in the Dr. Rockso character, IMHO.

spman: Well, that's terrible, but admittedly he hasn't been funny in 20 years.

How does one express oneself properly when one hears sentiments like that?

Oh yes, go eat a bag of diseased dicks and die, motherfarker.

2014-08-11 07:26:19 PM
Few people in this world have influenced me as much as Robin Williams. George Carlin gave me jaded and caustic. Robin Williams tempered it with grace, and generosity of spirit. Of the two, I shall miss Robin Williams much more.

Whatever peace there could be, I hope he finds it.
