Typically, George, you're supposed to kill the characters, not the actors portraying them.

Ser Denys Mallister, the oldest member of the Night's Watch.

UM, not even close.
Maester Aemon
100+ clearly the oldest brother of the night's watch.

CGI is so last year. All the new hip actors are being 3D-printed!

The Obit  I saw earlier had the line "cause of death has not been determined". I'm going with "being 86" as the cause of death.

No cause of death given for the 86 year old actor, other than the fact that he was 86

I'm assuming they mean "brother"...as in, not someone with a title; Maester, Commander...
Just another "no-name", no title having Watchman.
And old...old as hell, it seems...so old, it killed him!

I hope they give him a bit mor eto do from this point forward than he gets in the books.

If/when Maester Aemon dies, then this dude could have been next oldest.

After his corpse gets a little more ripe, they are going to re-animate the corpse and have him play a white...

shiat, Nathan Bridger died and nobody told me?

2009's 'Iron Cross' utilized CGI and a latex mask to recreate Roy Scheider, who died during production.

They're really streamlined the process of killing characters, haven't they?

Ser Denys Mallister is the Commander of the Shadow Tower and was a candidate to replace Lord Commander Mormont. Not really a "no-name" man of the Night's Watch.

I'm assuming the article got the books and show mixed up. It's easy to do. I often forget that Melisandre and Thoros didn't meet in the books.

I wonder what they're going to do with Thoros now.  The absence of a certain character who came in and took over the Brotherhood Without Banners will probably give him the chance to do a hell of a lot more.  Though that absence also means Beric is also still alive.

I'm all for hiring actual old actors but when you hire an 86 year old, you kinda gotta figure he may just not be around for the filming of a multi-year series.

Ser Mallister should have only been in a few scenes this year with the Lord Commander's election. He was mentioned in previous books, but readers were not introduced to him until after the assault on Castle Black. Unless he actually does something other than write letters in the last two books, this is not a huge deal.
