I've never found it insulting when a random dude asked me to smile.  And I'm by no means a hottie that anyone would ever say anything like that to.  I found it amusing when people have said that to me.
Maybe it's one of those things that bothers attractive people.

DOES she have a juicy pussy?  This deserves investigation

Maybe she's just a basic biatch?

Here's how to find out.

You want a hot body? You want a Bugatti? You want a Maserati? You better smirk, biatch!

How about when a random dude COMMANDED you to smile and called you a biatch to top it off?

Is telling women to smile a black guy thing?

If strangers frown when they see you, maybe its time for some introspection.

Because merely talking to someone is not harassment. When tables are turned and some random chick talks to me -even if it's "Can you spare some change?" -It is not harassment.

Not really - but it is an idiot thing.

I'm not sure I would find it insulting as much as I would find it annoying.

This is why I always go "yuck, don't even look at me, ugly!" whenever I see a woman walking down the street.

It's what over-privileged young women do in lieu of dealing with real problems.

Solution:  if random guys keep walking up to you in the street and saying "Smile", just adopt a standard line to use as a response.  That line should be, "My grandmother just died".

It's not insulting. It's annoying. Being commanded to do anything by some random stranger is annoying. If you find it amusing, fine. But not everybody does.

Absolutely. Everyone needs to check their privilege. Except for Gruesome Gertie over there. No one ever asks her to smile.

Nobody ever "asks" anybody to smile, man or woman, grownup or child. It is always stated as an order - and it isn't friendly in any genuine way.

I used to when I worked the register at BK, but you go ahead and tell them why you're exhausted and having a hard time smiling and you get a stern talking to by the General Manager.

I'm okay with that. There is no good reason to try to strike up a conversation with a stranger who is walking down the street. We're all just trying to get somewhere, not make new friends.

Why? On the exceedinly rare occasions that I have had some actual legitimate reason to speak to a woman I have encountered on the street, I have always been able to do so without upsetting them in any way.

Yep. I'm just trying to go about my day. Maybe I'm not smiling because I'm thinking about work, or tired because the kiddo was up three times last night, or upset because of some shiatty comment one of my friends said, or just daydreaming. I don't have to smile for some stranger on the street. He'll live.
