This concept would be a plausible explanation for the GOP's attitude of "NO!, You get Nothing."

GOP policy since the 1970s has included a tacit belief that the end times are upon us and that there is no
need to plan for anything more than 10 years in the future.

Which begs the question, which is dumber, a bag of rocks or a bag of hammers.

It's been a pretty popular excuse for a long time.

To be fair, subby, Texas had a problem with this because they're getting all the soul prep they need in public schools there now.

Fine, since you're such a smart guy, what excuse do we use then?

You can use the bag of hammers to break the bag of rocks. Well, after taking them out of the bag, anyway.

This is stupid, even by Texas standards

Child abuse is no laughing matter.

Glad to see the courts stepping in, even (especially) when religion is involved as the excuse.

Sure it is. You just don't hate children enough.

It likely depends on their potential future usefulness, as tools for example.

I'd go with hammers, but those rocks could be full of gold and diamonds, or OIL!!!!

So "Hope for the best; prepare for the worst" isn't in the Bible?

// though I do seem to recall that "none will know the date of my return" or somesuch
// doesn't that same part suggest anyone who claims it is a charlatan?

There is hope for the kids, or at least one of them:

District attendance officer Mark Mendoza later confirmed that one of the daughters, Tori, had run away from home to "attend school," and was enrolled at Coronado High School.

It may take a little time for them to catch up with the rest of the world, but at least they seem to realize their parents are nutjobs.

Actually, it's easier to break the bag while the rocks are still in it.
Not that there's any way that I would know that.
A bag of hammers turns out to be expensive.
And the bag is likely to break on the way home from the store.

A bag of rocks.  They belong in a box

These people seem to be the most intelligent and reasonable Christians that I have ever read about.  I can not imagine any Christian more intelligent or reasonable.

To that end, all Christians should be sterilized.  It's the only way.
Jesus didn't have kids, neither should they.

How many times does the supposed appointed time of the Rapture have to come and go before people realize is ain't happening or at least that no one knows the hour? (Seems like someone with some authority even said as much once upon a time.)

Also, don't you think God would want you to keep doing the right thing right up to the last minute anyway? Same with environmentalism. Yes, God gave us the Earth to use and rule over, doesn't that imply he'd want us to do well? I know when I give my kid a toy I expect them to treat it well and take care of it, not destroy it.

Some dude was talking about how he was homeschooled and he turned out so great that he has this hot wife.  That was the wife.

Add the Texas Eighth District Court of Appeals to LOPCATGOPATA.

As every red blooded American knows kids don't need any education to vote republican and have babies.

I've always wondered what if the rapture already happened and we didn't notice it. I asked this question to a friend of a friend who was a serious fundie and the look on his face that HE wouldn't be raptured was priceless. Said friend of mine asked me not to mess with their heads anymore....

Police state USSA in action. They take an outlying case, set a precedent, and slowly our children are becoming state property. The current curriculum in school is in world standard terms pathetic, anti family, anti faith, anti  freedom and anti liberty.  They also learn to OBEY the police state and become educated in the Cloward-Piven Alinsky tactics to destroy this nation from within.

This whole thing has to fade right? I mean if you're born now you'll have unprecedented access to information even in the south. So in 2054, baring any apocalypse, our kids, and our kid's kids won't take any of this seriously right?

Although I still don't know how the Santa, Easter Bunny, Jesus conundrum hasn't freed more young minds already.

It seems rather presumptuous of your friend to assume that he knows that whom God will choose. I'm guessing that's why he wasn't raptured.

Homeschooling makes it a high probability that the kids will be as stupid as the parents. This should scare the rest of us.

God probably put the kabosh on the rapture because he already had enough numbskulls in Heaven.

Everything you Alinksy types dont agree with gets labeled as abuse and you use the police state  to enforce your point of view.

If I interpret your sarcasm correctly, you're butthurt because you think any article about crazy Christians implies that all Christians are crazy, or at least fails to mention that only some Christians are crazy, which, when you think about it, is really the most important point.

that's not really true.

the GOP policy since the 70s has been to hoodwink everyone that believes the end times are upon us to vote for the GOP by pandering to their madness.

before this 1970s policy was developed, whole swathes of the end of times population were not politically active.  now the GOP opened the can of worms, and this policy of hoodwinking is being infiltrated by the hoodwinked.
