Me thinks subby isn't too familiar with agriculture.

I always thought straws came out of a plastic extrusion machine. Learn something new every day.

There will be a shortage of scarecrows this year.

Well I was wondering the same thing.  Straw is a by-product of grain production.

straw
strô/
noun
1.  dried stalks of grain, used especially as fodder or as material for thatching, packing, or weaving.
"a straw hat"
2.  a single dried stalk of grain.  "the tramp sat chewing a straw"

Why wouldn't they say "wheat farm" or whatever other grain they are growing?

Steel Monkey is an alright song. I kind of like Tull (Bungle in the Jungle, To Cry You a Song, Aqualung, Living in the Past, The Whistler, Thick as a Brick, Minstrel in the Gallery...), which makes talking about that 1988 Grammy awkward.

Not that Tull deserved to win it of course, but I can't talk too much smack without feeling bad them.

Apropos of nothing, this was about a mile from my house. I could smell it as I was going to work.

Farmer Dial offers you $5 and hour to bale straw or $7 and hour to bale hay.  Both are the standard square bales with twine.  Which would you choose?
