(Syracuse Post-Standard)   Bills fans are drunkest in NFL, says author who visited every stadium last year. If your team didn't make the playoffs for 14 years, you'd drink a lot, too   ( syracuse.com) divider line

31 stadiums, 17 weeks in an NFL season. But you've got Thursday night football and Monday night football in addition to the usual Sunday games, so...yeah, it could be done, if you're a rich guy that doesn't have a job. Or you're paid by the NFL to tour stadiums.

I had just assumed that it would be Jets fans.

I would be very surprised if per capita alcohol consumption in GB was less than in Buffalo on game days. Google-fu is not working to even find stadium alcohol sales stats.

Yeah, by this logic Lions fans should be blackout drunk at every game but I usually just sigh and say "oh wow, Stafford just farked up again" or whatever the excuse happens to be that time

The 'drunkenness of fans' depends on where you sit,  how the game is going, early or late game, and how many delays have taken place.    In one game, in different parts of the stadium, your experience can vary a lot.

/only been to four NFL stadiums

So, AT the stadiums. Gotcha.

Was going to say, how are Browns fans - regardless of location - not by far the drunkest every Sunday.

Maybe I'm weird, but I can't see paying $200 for a ticket, just to get hammered. I can do that at home.

Amen to that. Get plowed AFTER the game, if that's your thing.

Too many dui's across the state for the hard cores. They can't get to Green Bay on account of the judge taking away the drivers license. You can identify them in the summer as they routinely ride 10 speed bicycles in jean shorts and championship era packers clothing items such as crinkled, faded hats (most popular are from Super Bowl 31, because nothing says party like a Packer fan in New Orleans) and t-shirts too used up for thrift stores to even accept.

This is a fanbase that celebrates tailgating around a beat-up Pinto whose owner is holding onto a jug of milk from the Comeback Game.  Alcoholism is a symptom of some greater malady.

As a veteran of many (many!) sports venues, I can testify that Ralph Wilson stadium is the drunkest place I've ever seen.
This is an actual photo I took in the men's bathroom in the nosebleed-seats level:

It's because the tailgating is so much better than the blue and red colored shiat that they put on the field.

I'd counter with the argument the the 'gating at Arrowhead and Lambeau are superior. BUT I've never been to Ralph's on a game day so I cannot speak from personal experience.

Ive actually stood in a line 15-20 dudes deep to pee in a sink at a stadium (moby arena, Colorado State) during a concert break.  Dude behind me was too short and had to get back in the huge urinal line.  Good times.

Tailgating at Bills games; where rip roaring drunk is considered moderation!

2014-08-11 09:20:19 PM
I wouldn't be surprised if it were true.

I'm a Bills fan, but haven't been to a game in person since 1999 (last season they made the playoffs, btw), and have no desire to go to another one anytime soon.  And I'd never, ever take my kid there. The drunk and debauched atmosphere at the stadium is one of many reasons the NFL is a much better sport on TV than in person.

Last time I was at the Ralph though was actually 2008, for the Sabres' Winter Classic game. The atmosphere at that game was actually awesome.

Bills fans are drunkest in NFL, says author who visited every stadium last year. If your team didn't make the playoffs for 14 years since having their asses handed to them in the Super Bowl by NFC East teams four times in a row, you'd drink a lot, too.

/OK, fine, cameroncrazy1984, the first one was close.

Can confirm. I go to a Bills Backers bar throughout the season.

/Disclaimer: Not a Bills fan myself
//Go Lions!
///...... Lots of drinking in that bar on Sundays tho.

2014-08-12 06:03:33 AM
In Buffalo the bars are still open when you pass out. They also open when wake up looking for a quick hang over cure.

2014-08-12 10:45:21 AM
At that rate, Lions fans should be completely inebriated.  (If you hadn't won a championship in
57 years, you'd wanna get blotto too.)

this is 100% true.  whether its in the actual lots, front yards, ECC, backyards, business parking lots, empty lot, a dirt field, back of dennys, the party is exactly the same.

coming from the north we have given up the 219 completely, and fly down 5 south until hitting Big Tree.  its a breeze after the game as well.  hardly any traffic.  im also really surprised that people dont use California Rd more often.  its like a secret everyone knows about but they dont care.

I happen to want to enjoy the game so maybe 1 beer at the game.   Plus it's hard to yell when drinking.
